The Arms Hotel Lobby, Friday

Gunther was upset, complaining that the specials board was unintelligible. River pointed out that it was neatly written, you just had to know Chinese to be able to read it.

"We are not in China!" Gunther raged.

"Have never been to China," River replied. "Am good at calligraphy, though."

The specials board is today written in Chinese characters, translated from Gunther's original text by River. The Arms Hotel is open.

Jeff came by after class, walking up to River with a nearly comical overabundance of 'stealth'. It appeared that Jeff's definition of stealth was mostly 'looking over his shoulder a lot while almost tripping over his own feet'.

"River!" he whisper-shouted, "Tuesday."

"Tuesday," River mouthed back, nodding. She couldn't help thinking that a stealthy Jeff looked almost like a dancing Jeff.

"The new girl is going to be there, too," Jeff whispered, conspiratorally. "We've got to be early or he might be paying attention."

Another nod. "New girl," River replied, looking confident. "Our numbers are increasing. I can take him out if it becomes necessary."

Jeff gave her both thumbs up, grinning, then retreaded backwards out of the hotel.

George Michael Bluth walked into the hotel lobby; he was pulling along two large suitcases and an overnight bag was slung over his shoulder.

"Hello. I need some help please?" For his boy next door looks, he appeared to be somewhat nervous.

Mary happened to be passing through the lobby and overheard him. "Hi there! Are you checking in?"

George Michael turned his head and tried to smile but his eyes were stuck mid-level on Mary and his cheeks flushed red. After twenty seconds he finally met her eyes. "I haven't yet. I mean I haven't checked into a room yet because that is what I would like to do now." Funny how breasts made him feel stupid real quick-like.

"Great! I can definitely help you out with that, if you just want to step over to the front desk," she said. "I'm Mary Connell, by the way. I'm the manager here at the Arms."

He did as she instructed and tried to get past the stupid. He was not a stupid person. "I'm George Michael Bluth," he said, looking around. "You're manager?"

"Guilty as charged," said Mary. "It's my day off, but hey, it's my hotel so I'm always around. So, George Michael Bluth? Must be a common last name. I've met two other Bluths since I got here. What brings you to Fandom?"

"You've... you've what?" That's all he heard; two other Bluths.

"There's two other people I've met in town with the name Bluth, but I think one of them left town recently," explained Mary. "I haven't seen the other one around lately either."

But George Michael came here to get away from his family. "But I came here to get away from my family," he said, rather dumbfounded. "And for the bananas."

"Maybe it's a common last name?" suggested Mary. "I came here to get away from my family too. So far I've been successful, except for my adopted dad deciding to by a condo outside of D.C."

"Does everyone come here to get away from their family?" That really wasn't a fair question since he's only met one person so far who shared that same common ground with him.

"I've talked to a lot of people and not everyone is trying to get away from something," said Mary. "How long will you be staying with us?"

"I'm not sure how long, but I would say longer than shorter," he said straight-faced.

"There is a monthly rate available that will save you some money if you're staying long-term," said Mary, consulting her guest book. "Did you want just a regular room, or would you like a mini-suite with a kitchenette? I also have some larger suites available. The kitchenettes are nice to have if you don't want to depend on room service or take-out."

"Something long-term. I think a kitchenette would be nice, thank you." He bet room service got expensive even though Gangy and his dad were giving him money, he needed to spend it wisely.

"Did you want an ocean view or a view of the town?" asked Mary.

Buster lost his hand in the ocean to a seal. "Ocean would be good." Has to be entertaining.

"Good choice. I have an ocean view myself," said Mary, smiling.

"So that narrows it down a bit. Now, I've got one last question for you," she added. "What's your favorite number?"

"I would have to say twelve, no thirteen." That's about the age he started to really notice Maeby and he probably shouldn't be thinking about that at all right now.

"Thirteen? Are you sure?" asked Mary. "Some would say it's bad luck."

Actually, now that he thought about it, he never did have much luck with Maeby. Second base wasn't that bad though.

"Miss? Connell, I would be happy if you chose a number for me."

"Okay, then," said Mary, picking out a key totally at random. Really. "Oh look, it's room 410. Just down the hall from me, actually. It's a very nice room. Will that work?"

"It will be very nice, thank you. Do I pay a deposite and month in advance?"

"Only if you're paying by cash or check. If you're paying by credit card, I just need the one month," said Mary. "And then I need you to sign the guest register," she added, indicating the antique book on the front desk.

"That's pretty easy," George Michael said and handed over a credit card and then signed the register. "Can it be set up to be automatically deducted every month?"

"Sure, I can set that up," said Mary. "Here's your room key. Do you need any help with your bags?"

George Michael pocketed the key and smiled at her. "No thank you, Miss Connell. I've got it from here. You've been very helpful. I'll just get settled in now."

"If you need anything, I'm in room 422," said Mary. "And welcome to Fandom!"

He smiled. "Thank you." She was down the hall from him? That was, that was a little nerve-wracking. Hopefully he wouldn't see her naked. That would be a major stupid moment.

"I hope I'll see you around," said Mary. There was little chance of anyone seeing her naked, unless she locked herself out of her room after taking a shower.

He can tell you what the food is too.

The hotel is open.
