Robin's Heretofore Unnamed Radio Show

"Hey, everyone, this is Robin Scherbatsky, and I'm here to entertain you for the afternoon." If Robin sounded a bit bored and put out by the whole experience, that was purely coincidence. "I'm here to give advice, play songs, and listen to what you guys have to say. Got questions about anything? I've got...um, Wikipedia. And I'm also wise and stuff. So call in, collect on that! I'm way better than the pirate whose boots I'm apparently filling. And I'm not calling this show by the name he had. That's just...I'm not calling anyone a wench."

Barney was calling, and totally intending to disguise his voice.

*ring ring*

"Hello, you're on the air!" Robin chirped.

Barney tried to make his voice scratchy and deeper than normal. "Hello person who I have no affiliation with whatsoever. Can you play Let's Go to the Mall for some of us Ca-NEIGH-deeans?"

Robin stared at her phone. "...that song has been out of play for years. I probably don't even have a copy of it, sorry!"

"Oh no! I'm sure you have a copy of the greatest pop song ever!" He failed at disguising his voice in his hurry to keep her on the line.

"Barney!" Robin yelled at her phone. "No! I don't know that song! We don't have it!"

"Don't lie to your listeners, Scherbatsky!" Barney yelled back. "We want ROBIN SPARKLES!"

"There is no Robin Sparkles!" she yelled, and then hung up.

Barney looked at the dead phone line and immediately called back.

RIIIIING! Yes, more annoying than the first time!

"Hello, you're on the air!"

This time he was going for high pitched teen. "Hi, I wanted to say that you are my favoritest DJ ever and you should totally play that song that guy was looking for about the mall because it's awesome and totally a pop classic!"

"Go away, Swarley!"

She hung up on him again.

Robin gives GREAT advice.

Really.

Johnny decided to break in the new employee.

Ring...

"Hello, you're on the air with Robin!"

"So, I left my cake out in the rain, and it took so long to make it, and I'll never have that recipe again," Johnny began, grinning. "What should I do?"

"...I think the first thing we all need to ask is why your cake was outside in the rain in the first place, if you cared so much to take a long time to make it, and the recipe is now gone," Robin said slowly.

Johnny glanced down at the lyrics to Macarthur Park.

Sadly, such a good question wasn't answered.

"Yeah, it was a long night. All that sweet green icing flowing down and all," he said dryly.

"Oh no, not the green icing," Robin said flatly.

"I can tell you totally dig my pain," Johnny agreed. "So tell me, if we were to follow the dance between the parted pages and were pressed in love's hot, fevered iron like a striped pair of pants--" he burst out laughing, "would I eventually find something that would make the lyrics to Macarthur Park make sense?"

"No," Robin said solemnly. "Science has proved it."

*ring*ring*

"Hello, you're on the air!"

"You and I have the best name ever!" Robin crowed.

"...is your name Robin, too?" she asked, suspecting she might be speaking to a small child.

"Yep! I'm a student at the school."

Jamie definitely had a serious question.

Which is why the phone was ringing.

"Hello, you're on the air!"

"Yes, I drank four Grape Judas squishies and my tongue appears to have turned permanently blue. I've brushed my tongue at least a dozen times to no avail. HELP ME ROBIN SHERBERT! YOU'RE MY ONLY HOPE!"

"Club soda?" she tried.

"I don't like the bubbles. Plus it doesn't taste good. OOO! Could I use sprite?"

"You said you don't like bubbles," she pointed out.

"But those bubbles are tasty."

Robin sighed. "Then why don't you try that."

"Okay! Hold on!"

The phone is put down and in the background there's the sound of a carbonated beverage being opened followed by gulps, swishing and gargling and then spitting.

"Okay. Didn't work. Now what?"

"Have you tried trying to counteract it with something red?" she replied. "Like if you drank some Powerade or something it would turn your tongue red again."

Mary stopped by because she was bored and trying to avoid the hotel lobby until after Jeff's shift. "Hi! Welcome to Fandom. How are you settling in?" she asked.

"Hi," Robin said, leaning back in her chair to get a look at the other woman. "I'm pretty good. Ish. The squirrels in Brooklyn aren't so talkative."

With Mary, there was a lot to look at. "Yeah, they take a little getting used to," she said, smiling. "I've heard that you can get along with them very nicely if you just give them rum. I'm Mary Connell, by the way. I work over at the Arms Hotel."

"Robin Scherbatsky," she said, offering a hand. "Rum? Really? Ew."

"I guess no one's really given them a really good martini yet," said Mary, shaking Robin's hand.

"That's clearly my job," Robin said thoughtfully. "Or some Johnnie Walker, but I don't know if I'm willing to waste the good stuff on rodents."

"Give them Johnnie Walker Red Label and save the Black Label for yourself?" suggested Mary.

"There's a thought. I wonder if they smoke, too."

"Not that I've seen, but who knows what other bad habits they can pick up around this place," said Mary with a smirk.

Anyway, I'll be AFK from about 3:15 until 9, but that won't be the regular case!
