Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Friday

Outside, there was a small army of wee knights ready to storm the premises. Lances were sharpened, horses were fed, the attack was sounded in with a trumpet volley of truly epic proportions.

The walls were swiftly breached: one by one, the knights barged in through the half-open door, yelling their indecipherable warcries. They were in, they were ready, and they would achieve a bloody victory over the enemy this very day.

That's when they met an unexpected obstacle: a very large toe.

Five minutes later, they left the building unarmed and looking vaguely sheepish.

Cable carefully stepped over the small pile of tiny weapons on his way to put the Open, For Employment Inquire Within and Meditation Area: For Instruction Ask At The Desk signs on the door.

Sometimes, they just came to you.

Gabriel had just stopped outside the Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center. He hadn't been thinking about entering, really, but then a cavalry unit of wee little knights had been attaching his legs, and while he tried to kick them away, they proved to be quite persistant, and the lances were quite sharp. So he quickly barged through the entrance, slamming the door shut behind him and waved his arms at the tiny warriors. "Go do your quest somewhere else! Think God cares?!"

Gabriel turned and glared at him. "I just got attacked by a bunch of tiny guys from the middle ages! What's wrong with this place?!" A plague of wee knights was even worse than anything he might have come up with himself, and that bugged him. "What's wrong with swarms of grasshoppers and rainstorms of blood?"

Gabriel just stared. "What's the point? A plague of something should torment and possibly kill, not be reasoned with." He eyed the man behind the desk suspiciously. "What do you mean 'we'?"

Gabriel didn't like the idea of a 'we' that included him and a monkey. "Yeah, yeah, so I've heard. Never beats a good old rain of frogs to get people moving."

"Care to enlighten me?" Gabriel didn't look like he cared to be enlightened at all.

Gabriel just shrugged. "Nice little establishment you have here." He threw a glance around the room, not looking very impressed. "Meditation, huh? Not the religious kind?" If people were going to spend money on religion he preferred it if they did it at the church.

There was something quite disturbing about this guy and Gabriel couldn't put his finger on why. Perhaps it had something to do with that he rarely found monkeys interesting enough to be disturbing. He sighed. "Oh, that type. Well, Nathan Christopher Charles Dayspring Askani'son Summers, I wish you good luck with that." Gabriel's voice was dripping with sarcasm.

That was clearly wrong. Gabriel froze for a moment, fixing a cold, curious and birdlike stare at the man, then turned and headed towards the door. He opened it, then stopped, throwing a look over his shoulder. "You don't happen to know God, do you?"

"Thought so." Gabriel shrugged again, then made an odd chuckle. "No thanks. The knights definitely don't, or they wouldn't be on that stupid quest." He suddenly burst out laughing and left the building, slamming the door shut behind him.

Ino slipped in sometime after lunch and headed straight for the meditation room. Writing to her dad had proved to be a waste of time and she was feeling irritable about it.

She sat cross-legged against one of the walls, closed her eyes, and let her breathing even out. Breathe in, hold for seven seconds, breath out, and repeat.
