Wonders of the World, Saturday [10/13]

Joanna was reading a lusty romance novel. Actually, she had a stack of them and she was just skimming through and reading the "good parts."

Wonders of the World was open for your leisure time.

[ooc: Please wait for the OCD is up! AFK most of the day, so feel free to skip ticket purchase and mod your game play]

Robin looked around at the course with delight.

Hoshi got there just after Robin did. "Hi. Thanks for inviting me," she said.

"My pleasure! Mini-Golf isn't nearly as much fun without someone else."

Hoshi looked over the course. "This does look really cool. I've never played before, though, so you might have to help me."

"No problem." Robin nodded. Many mini-golf places had tiny clubs for families with small children. Robin was shorter than a two year old, but he was still able to use the club well enough.

"They object is to use this club, to get this ball, into the hole, with as few tries as possible.'

It looked like a matter of simple geometry, but Hoshi's strongest subject was definitely not math. "Let's get started, then. Do you want to go first?" she asked.

"Sure." he nodded, and examined the first hole. He tapped the ball with his club, and it bounced off the pyramid, going in the opposite direction as the hole. "Darn."

"Oops," said Hoshi. "Definitely not as easy as it looks."

"No it's not." He went up to the ball, looked for the best route to get back on course, and his next shot got him fairly close. "It can be more frustrating the closer you get, cause the ball can be stubborn." As if to demonstrate his point, on his next tap, the ball skirted the edge of the hole, and kept going away from it.

"Do they purposely make the course tough?" asked Hoshi. After all, the proprietor of Wonders of the World wasn't exactly the most popular person around the hotel.

"I think so. It's supposed to be a challenge, and they get progressively harder as you go." Kerplunk, the ball went in. "Yay! Your turn."

Hoshi studied the hole carefully, then lined up her shot. "Here goes nothing," she said, tapping the ball. It ricocheted off the side of the pyramid, bounced off the Sphinx, and came to rest near the hole.

"Wow!" Robin was impressed. "Very good!"

"Beginner's luck, I guess," said Hoshi, tapping her ball into the hole.

"Well done." Robin beamed. "Or, as we say in Frog, //well done//."

"//Well done//," said Hoshi, carefully sounding out the words.

"You really are a natural at the language thing aren't you."

Hoshi shrugged. "My tutors back home called me a linguistic genius. That's why they wanted to home-school me instead of letting me go to a real school. It wasn't that fun, honestly. I never got to do things like play mini golf."

"I'm not a genius or anything, but I'd think that being exposed to the culture would be a great way to learn a language."

"Actually, the reason I liked learning new languages was the exposure to new cultures," said Hoshi. "It was one of the few ways that I could interact with people besides writing to my pen pal in Australia. I didn't get to see other kids my age and my family is kind of distant."
