The Beach (eventually): Dawn

Trenor watched forlornly from his stall while the Nice White horse and Talking Girl Horse disappeared from sight.

He'd tried to follow them - it was easy to open his stall door - because they were so nice and they looked like they were having fun, but the Nice White Horse had made him come back. Heaving a deep sigh, Trenor went to nose around in the bottom of his feed bin, to see if there were any apple bits left from last night.

Having returned Trenor to his stall, Florian and Hwin cantered away from the stables, through the preserve, and at last stepped onto the beach.

Florian snorted, curving his neck towards Hwin. :You picked perfectly. This is beautiful, and all that sand looks like the perfect place for a run.:

[ooc: The beach is, of course, open, but the Horsie date thread is locked to them!]

She let loose a playful buck and pranced towards him. "It's not quite the cove at Cair Paravel, but it'll do."

:Valdemar's nowhere near the ocean, so this is a first for me.: Florian arched his neck higher and lifted his front hooves in a half rear. Eyes wicked, he slanted his ears towards her. :Race you to the other end.:

Hwin tossed her head then curved around towards him. "Ready...steady..."

He bumped her shoulder with his. :...go!:

Then he was launching himself forward with a leap and a neigh, hooves digging into the sand.

She whinnied in glee as she jumped forward, stretching out to full length almost immediately as she refused to be left behind.

A Companion could outrun a horse without thinking about it, but Florian had no intention of winning this race, and he kept his stride short, tossing his head to make his mane fly as he sent her another wicked look.

"It's a good thing you know how pretty you are," Hwin teased, curvetting a bit as she slid towards him.

:I know how pretty you are,: he replied as he slipped sideways towards her, matching her stride as they ran down the beach. :And that's even better.:

Hwin would have blushed were she able to do so. Instead she leaned over to brush her nose against him for just a moment then concentrated on making their footsteps match exactly.

Florian would have grinned if he could, but he did toss his head and flag his tail, nuzzling her cheek without breaking pace.

Hey, he was a Companion. They're very talented.

Talented enough that it made Hwin wonder why the stallions in Narnia weren't like this. She angled sideways, drawing him into the water just a bit so it could splash up on their rapidly heating legs.

Florian followed willing, possibly kicking up more of a splash than was necessary as he brushed against her.

She leaned over to brush her muzzle across his neck as they galloped up to the end of the cove.

Florian stretched his legs out, lengthening his stride, still careful not to pass her, but clearly showing off as they reached the end, and he propped, sliding to a dramatic stop in a spray of water. :Good run!:
