Devil's Nest, Sunday Evening

Kabuto arrived for his shift a little earlier than usual, and set to cleaning almost immediately. Tonight, the place had to be spotless.

When he was finally satisfied, Kabuto unlocked the doors. The Devil's Nest was open, for whatever possible things soon to come.

Kabuto was in a good mood, and willing to serve customers.

Very clean, and appropriately dark for lurking.

Orochimaru wouldn't say he was lurking. He was here though, looking inscrutable, and waiting to see if... Someone would show. In the meantime he was watching Kabuto and keeping an eye on the rest of the place.

As if Lucifer would allow Kabuto's little guest into his club without making an appearance.

"So you're Orochimaru," Lucifer said, standing just behind the ninja. No, he hadn't been there before.

Orochimaru didn't jump, but there might have been a spike of killing intent as he turned around.

He nodded his head, "Lucifer."

The killing intent only served to amuse Lucifer.

"Would you care for a glass of wine? Or perhaps a brandy?"

"Sake, if you would." Orochimaru's voice didn't show his low opinion of the options offered, "Kabuto has told me of you."

"Has he?" Lucifer did not seem surprised in the slightest. "Such a clever boy."

A bottle of chilled sake appeared on a nearby table, at which Lucifer took a seat. He poured two glasses, movements precise and as perfect as a well trained geisha.

"Indeed." Orochimaru took a seat across from him. "He is useful at times."

Lucifer hummed thoughtfully, settling back to sip his sake carefully. After all, the last time he had some, there had been too much work to be done to enjoy it.

Gold eyes stared easily back into gold. "Why are you here?"

"Do I need a reason?" Orochimaru asked with upraised brows, "I had the weekend free and was mildly interested."

//"In my club, not the island.// Lucifer replied politely. "Orochimaru-kun."

//"I killed the last one to call me that."// Orochimaru observed, killing intent swirling around him, //"Kabuto spoke highly of you. I was curious."//

Lucifer simply smiled. //"I am well aware of that."//

//"He also says you could do better."// Orochimaru took a sip of his sake and smiled.

//"I am retired,"// Lucifer replied. //"I have no need for more than this."//

//"This?"// Orochimaru looked around, //"A bar in a small town? Such a waste. Pity."//

//"Big words for a petty little mortal with delusions of immortality."//

//"Power is as power does. Your labels mean nothing to me.// Orochimaru's lips twisted, rage flaring in his eyes, //"Power without ambition is nothing, but power coupled with ambition... that is quite different."//

Hit a nerve, did he? Shame.

//"And ambition without wisdom only leads to an untimely end. I am far older than you can imagine, child. This little quest of yours doesn't even register past the blink of an eye for one such as myself."//

Child? Orochimaru's eyes narrowed.

//"And children may one day rise up and surpass their 'parents'."// He took a sip of his sake, //"It is dangerous to underestimate those whom you blink and miss."//

Lucifer chuckled. //"Yes, you should take that advice to heart. Plans have a nasty tendency to go astray when others have different ideas of who should be the victor."//

//"Do not presume to tell me of my plans. I am well aware of all my 'children'."//

Lucifer paused halfway to bringing the cup to his lips, head cocked to the side. //"Are you?"//

Orochimaru's eyes gleamed, //"I am."//

//"Of course, Lord Orochimaru."// The mocking was quite clear in his tone.

The mocking made his lips curve into a cruel smile, //"Appearances can be deceiving, of course. At times a veil of ignorance is more than valuable."//

//"Ignorance, in my experience, is never valuable. Especially when it is no longer just a veil."//

//"It can always be rectified."// Orochimaru observed, //"And the veil can always be stripped."//

//"As you say,"// Lucifer replied with a shrug, though it did not seem as though he believed it.

//"Believe what you wish."// Orochimaru flicked his fingers dismissively, //"I know what I am about."//

"Power for power's sake," Lucifer supplied. "How has that worked for you so far? A new body every few years, the devotion of children?"

"It is enough for now. What I want is still within reach." Orochimaru looked amused, "I'll not rest on my laurels."

"My laurels?" Lucifer smirked. "I have had what you seek and found it to be so terribly dull."

Orochimaru shrugged, "Then we are not so similar as Kabuto suggested. I would be content."

"So much ambition," Lucifer commented. "Do you truly think it would be sated so easily?"

"Upon realizing my ambition, there would be new challenges." Orochimaru said, "I'd not be bored."

"Do you know what it truly means to be immortal, child?"

"I'd have all the time I needed to achieve my goals."

"Try existing for millions of years," Lucifer told him, sneering with disgust. "Goals mean very little to you after the first few millenia."

"Perhaps they would, I do not know. But what difference would it make to you, when you have always had those years? Have you felt the chill hands of death, and the slow sapping of strength that accompanies those bound to this mortal coil?" Orochimaru looked darkly amused, "I should like to try."

Quiet piano music was what Kabuto left it on, though it was always open to change.
