Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Tuesday

Ino stalked into work late, clutching a pillow she’d ~~handwavily~~ bought in her arms. She plopped it down on the desk and hurriedly flipped the sign to Open.

Then she did a quick tidy up of the store, sweeping the floor and dusting the weapon cases, before sitting down, hugging her pillow, and looking moody.

Wellspring Arms is Open.

She's not in the best of moods though.

As per usual, some time during the afternoon, a Cable holding a cup of coffee wandered into the store, going quietly about his own business in the showcases.

Ino stared after him for awhile before abandoning the desk (and her pillow) and going to bother him. Maybe some human interaction would help distract her from brooding. "Cable-san? Mind some company?"

"I don't mind it." Cable's mouth quirked, as if at a private joke. "A pillow?"

Ino made a face. "Kabuto exploded mine last night. I needed a new one."

Cable sipped his coffee. "Any particular reason?"

"Why he exploded it? I threw it at him and yeah. New pillow."

"Lost your temper?" If he was amused, it wasn't showing.

Her shoulders drooped and she fiddled with her hands. "Yeah, even after you helped me yesterday. He's good at making me mad."

"Some people make it easy."

Not like Cable had anyone like that. Really.

"Do you think you would have won if you hadn't?"

"I don't mean to make it easy!" Ino protested, and then asked because he'd confused her, "Won what?

"Not you. Him." He took another sip. "The fight."

"Oh." Ino blushed slightly, "Sorry. I was jumping to conclusions again, right? It wasn't a real fight though, he'd just said something that was irritating." She looked disgruntled, "I can never win with him."

"I find a straight face can sometimes work better than a hundred blows." Nobody else knew that better.

"Kabuto's good at doing that, but I don't think I'd be any better at it than with keeping my temper." It was only the truth.

"Or thinking about them in their underwear." Now Cable was smirking. A little. He sipped his coffee, sliding another weapon case open. "You'd be surprised."

"I don't want to think about him in his underwear! No way!" Ino flailed, face flushing scarlet. "I don't like him AT ALL." She wasn't in denial. Really. "He's a jerk!" Which was true and made her feel a little better just having said it.

"I wasn't implying you were." Cable smiled idly into his coffee.

Ino considered flinging her new pillow at Cable but decided against it because, yeah, he was her boss. "Why can't anyone around here just say what they mean?"

"It wouldn't be as much fun." Or you had severe issues due to many years of death and angst, but really, that was a whole different story he wasn't going to tell. He was deadpanning.

Cable put his now-empty cup down on a shelf and moved on to another case. "Straight faces," he said.

"It's not fun at all from the other side." Ino complained, then she asked, "What about straight faces?"

"That's--" He opened the case, meddling around inside of, his hands buried under some stacks. "His trick."

"That's his..." Ino trailed off thinking furiously about everytime she'd flown off the handle at him, and gaped. "I'm not that easy to set off!" Yes, she was. "That's not fair!"

Cable smiled at her ~~mysteriously~~, closed the gun case, and said, "Good luck, Ino," before walking calmly out of the shop and up the stairs.
