Fandom Post Office, Monday, 10/29

After taking care of Dick for the weekend, Annette was surprised she didn't end up sick herself. But it was worth being around him and helping him because she thought he was feeling much better by last night.

She was in a pretty good mood coming into work this morning, and greeted Gladys and petted Not Tiddles, before she settled herself behind the counter to do post office-y stuff.

A bowl of candy corn was set out on the counter as well as miniture Reeses, Snickers, and Hershey's kisses wrapped in orange and dark brown foil. Yum. She would seriously try to keep her hands out of the candy bowls.

Ino wandered down after class, with a tea handwavily obtained from the Perk, and grinned at Annette. "Hi, Annette! How was your weekend?"

"Hi, Ino!" Annette said cheerily. "It was spent taking care of my sick boyfriend but I believe he's on the mend so it was very good. How was yours?"

"Embarrassing." Ino leaned against the counter, "I woke up in Kabuto's bed again. I'm glad your boyfriend is doing better though, being sick isn't fun."

Annette leaned against the counter too, grinning slightly. "How did it happen this time? And thanks. Being sick isn't fun but he was a great patient."

"Well, I went over to yell at him, 'cause our he didn't show up in Ethics on Thursday - and it was midterms, and he was my assigned partner, so yeah, not fun - and somehow that wound up with me playing with his hair and he fell asleep with his head in my lap and I uh, fell asleep too." Her grin was rueful.

Sounded very convenient to Annette and she didn't manage to hold her grin at all. "Uh-huh. So, did you wake up all flail-y like and stuff?"

Ino blushed, "handwavily Yeah. But he was exhausted so it wasn't as bad as it could've been - I managed to spazz and sneak out of his room all without him waking up."

Beauty felt like she hadn't spoken to Annette in ages, so she headed to the post office in hopes of catching a few minutes to speak to her friend.

"Good morning, Annette!"

"Good morning, Beauty!" Annette waved, grinning wide. "It's so nice to see you this morning; how have you been?"

"I've been well," Beauty replied, with a smile. It was the truth, too. There'd been a couple of nights with the dreams, but nothing a couple of days, and she really believed it was because of the new mural on her wall. "Learning all kinds of new things recently. What about you? Are you doing well?"

"Ah, that's nice to hear and what sort of new things?" she asked, smiling. She'd heard on the radio a few things about her and A.J. but didn't want to pester Beauty about them, nor embarrass her by bringing anything up. "I'm doing great actually. Spent the weekend taking care of a sick boyfriend but other than that, I'm good."

"Oh, I'm sorry about your boyfriend, Annette," Beauty replied with a sympathetic frown. "I hope he's feeling better now."

She couldn't hold on to the frown for long, though, because there had been a lot happening lately. "Well, um...A.J. did a mural for my room and it's beautiful. And I had pizza for the first time, and my sisters visited!"

"Oh, it's all right. He's on the mend and feeling better. I pretty much made him stay in bed all weekend." she said.

"I bet it is beautiful," Annette answered thinking of her own bedroom that A.J. painted. "I would like to see it if you'll let me. And ooh how nice that your sisters visited! What did they think of Fandom?"

"You can come and see it any time you like, Annette!" Beauty exclaimed. "It's so perfect, like a rose arbor around my bed."

She leaned her elbows on the counter. "Grace and Hope thought it was a really nice town, and they seemed happy with the school. Although I think they were more interested in asking me questions about dates and friends and things, than anything about my studies." Not that Beauty could blame them. There was no question she was putting a lot of work into her studies, it was the social aspect of life she tended to neglect.

Annette walked back out empty handed. "I'm sorry, Jack. There wasn't any letters for you." She always felt bad during these moments when someone was so excited to think they might be getting a letter, only to be let down. "Have a piece of candy."

"Oh." His face fell a bit. "I was hoping for a letter. My dad's working, so he didn't make it down for Parents Weekend, but I was hoping for a letter, at least. We Burtons aren't the best at letter-writing, though." He smiled a bit and took a piece of candy from the very helpful blond.e

"I'm sorry," she repeated, feeling for him. "Do you write him very often?"

"Not really. He generally writes me, cuz there's no good place for a trucker to get mail on the road, and forwarding things is a hassle," he said. "Regular routes, sure, send it to one of the stops and he'll get it when he passes through."

He flashed a smile. It wasn't really smiley.
