Fandom Post Office, Wednesday (10/31)

Beauty wasn't familiar with modern Halloween traditions, so she wasn't wearing a costume when she stumbled into the post office, just a little bit late. Unless you consider being dressed like a girl from the twenty-first century, in which case she was definitely in costume, but unintentionally so.

Frankly, she was lucky she managed to get dressed and make it to work. Her head was pounding so badly she thought it might explode. So after mumbling a good morning to Gladys, Beauty climbed up on her stool behind the counter, laid her head down on her arms, and began to pray for a huge rock to fall out of the sky and crush her.

She's here, and she's even alive, except during second period and maybe a lunch break, if she gets up the nerve. (She'll still be alive then, but not here.)

Around first period, Annette comes flouncing in with a tall cup of coffee from the Perk. She'd ~~handwavily~~ picked it up on her way to see Beauty.

But, uh-oh, Beauty wasn't looking so good. "Beauty? I... brought you a coffee."

Beauty made a soft whimpering sound at the voice, which was OMGSOLOUDWHY?, and raised her head a little, to look blearily at Annette.

"Coffee?"

Annette nodded, feeling very concerned for her friend. Evidently the tequila wasn't nice to her. Ooops. Her bad.

She set the coffee on the counter and whispered, "It's hot and good and will make you feel better."

Yeah, Beauty would probably be giving tequila a wide berth from now on.

She eyed the coffee cup, and smiled gratefully at Annette, before pulling it closer and taking a sip. "Annette," she murmured. "Did you forget to finish getting dressed this morning?"

That was the hungover!Beauty version of "ZOMG Annette what are you wearing?!"

"What? Oh! No, this is my Halloween costume!" She twirled around and wiggled her fluffy tail at Beauty who could probably care less about a wiggling fanny this morning, but so what, Annette wiggled her toosh and grinned. "I'm a ~~slutty~~ bunny!"

"Uh huh," Beauty replied oh-so-intelligently. "Why?"

She'd have said more, really she would have, but coherency wasn't her strong suit this morning.

"Why what?" Annette asked blankly. "Why did I pick a bunny? Well, they're cute and fluffy and look at my tail!"

"But you're not fluffy," Beauty pointed out. "And...why are you dressed like anything? I mean, other than a normal person like every day."

"I have fluff! It's here," she trailed her fingers along her chest and then grabbed her bushy tail. "I'm just a different kind of bunny. Sexaaaaay." She giggled.

"Ohhhh, you don't know! It's Halloween, Beauty! We all dress up and go Trick or Treating!"

Beauty was really not sure how bunnies equaled sexy. Mostly in her experience they equaled annoying little rodents that burrowed in your garden and ate all your vegetables. Although they did make for good stew.

"I know it's All Hallows," she replied, with a little frown. It wasn't fair that Annette was feeling so good this morning. "I just don't understand why you're wearing a costume."

Oooh, Annette wouldn't want to hear the stew part. Ew. Ew.

"Everyone does. It's a tradition, Beauty. We all dress up and go door to door collecting candy! It's fun! Oh, I bet you can get a great discount on a costume from Pixie Dust today if you want to Trick or Treat later."

Oh. Okay, Beauty was starting to understand, and now she felt a little bad about not knowing soon enough to be able to make plans for a costume. And to not be sick and hungover.

"I...I don't know," she hedged, thinking about all the money she'd spent on clothes the other day, and how little she had left until her next paycheck. "Maybe I'll just stay home. I wouldn't know what kind of costume to wear anyway."

Annette considered Beauty for a moment. Reaching into her cleavage, she pulled out a couple twenties. "Here. When you feel better, or on your lunch break, head out and get you a costume. Doesn't matter what you wear, but I want you to have fun tonight! And believe me, after this coffee and throughout your day, you will feel better! Promise!"

"Oh Annette, I can't do that," she insisted. But she took the money anyway, because it did sound like fun. Maybe A.J. would be going out too, she'd have to ask him at lunch.

If he was still willing to talk to her. Beauty facepalmed.

"If you really think so, I will," she agreed. "Maybe I'll run into you later?"

"It will be fun! And yes, hopefully we'll run into each other later. Please buy a costume! Talk to A.J., maybe he's going out too and you two can go together."

Beauty smiled sadly at Annette pretty much reading her mind, and nodded. "I'll ask him, although I don't know, after he hears about how stupid I was last night, he might not want to be seen with me."

Probably the silliness of that statement would have kept Beauty from making it, if she hadn't been feeling so ill.

"It was my fault," Annette said. "It was my fault and you tell him that. Forget what I said last night. Tell him that I dragged you there and made you drink with me cause I am a bad influence. Tell him and then he will be okay with it." Hopefully.

"No." Beauty shook her head. "It wasn't your fault, Annette, you didn't make me do anything. I should have been more careful, and I should have thought about what I was doing. It was my lack of judgment, and I'll the consequences."

Even if it meant disappointing A.J., and looking stupid. She laid her head down on her arms again.

"It wasn't your lack of judgement. It was your lack of knowledge. I just wanted you to try it. And you did and... we got drunk. Oh. I'm so sorry, Beauty. That's it, I should tell A.J. myself what I did to you."

Beauty looked up again, frowning darkly. "I'm not so naive that I don't know what alcohol does to a person. Don't you dare tell A.J. that you did something to me, because you didn't. It was fun, I think. What I remember, anyway. I just should have known better, I've never had anything strong. I just didn't...want to look...bad. In front of you and your boyfriend. And that was me being stupid, not you doing anything wrong."

Oh. Beauty can give off dark, mean frowns. Oh. Annette took a step back. "Okay. Um. Now I feel bad that you thought you might look bad. We had fun and Dick thinks you're nice."

And now Beauty felt really guilty about making Annette feel bad. It was just hard to maintain a friendly disposition when there were people throwing rocks at the inside of your skull.

"Did he really? I, um...sort of expected he'd be not so nice as he was. Because of, um...the thing with punching A.J. and all that. Honest, Annette, I had fun. And I'm sure everything will be fine. I just feel...not myself this morning. But maybe later I'll go out like you suggested, and thing will be better."

Annette could understand that. She's been there. She just wasn't thinking clearly about how Beauty might be feeling right now because it was Halloween and she wanted her to have a good time.

"Nah, Dick isn't like that. He doesn't hold grudges. Well, okay, I doubt he and A.J. will ever be buddies but there is no reason for him not to be nice to you. You are a great person and I don't think anyone could not not like you." She smiled softly. "I'm sorry you are feeling icky. Coffee. Lots of it."

Beauty gave Annette a little smile, and sipped some more at the coffee. "It was nice of you to bring this. I promise, Annette, I really will think about getting a costume and going out. If I'm feeling better later, honest. And I'll go and talk to A.J. too, when I have my lunch break."

"Okay. That all sounds great, Beauty. I'll leave you to get back to your coffee sipping and feeling better, okay? And really, I'm sorry."

"Annette, you don't have anything to be sorry for," Beauty replied insistently. "We'll have to go out again sometime, only without the tequila, okay?"

"Definitely without. We'll go to a movie and have pizza, or go shopping!" She grinned and turned to bounce on out. "See you later hopefully!"

"That sounds like fun. I like movies and pizza," Beauty replied, with a quiet smile. "And shopping," she added belatedly. Shopping wasn't too bad, so long as no one was trying to steal your boots.

"Have a nice All Hallows, Annette. And don't let the goblins find you."

Gladys is also here, and is not hungover. Which makes her twice as intelligible and helpful as Beauty.

Or just use the post box, which is neither hungover nor intelligible.

I am not hungover either, but I really need some coffee.
