Jeff had a flight ticket home.

He wasn't entirely sure how he felt about that.

Okay, he was sure how he felt about that. It was the layover that was making him wonder. So much that he very almost nearly forgot to put up the specials board.

Luckily for the visitors, Nana intervened.

Jeff's leg would never be the same.

It actually looks like there's real food today.

He's rereading the e-ticket.

And trying to figure out what an e-ticket is.

River had gone for a long walk in the morning, passing through the town, and decided to stop by at the hotel to see how Jeff and the others were doing. She waved to Nana, then walked up to the desk.

"Hello, Jeff," she said, smiling cheerfully.

"Union River!"

Jeff's head shot up from the ticket. "Hello!"

Both seeing the ticket and sensing his thoughts about it, she tilted her head. "Planning on leaving?" she asked, smirking.

And Jeff's shoulders sagged like something that sagged.

Maybe an old cucumber.

"Mother says she wants to 'discuss my future'," Jeff whimpered. "I have to go home for a couple of days."

River gave him a look of sympathy. Jeff's mother was scary; perhaps not as frightening as Irulan's Reverend Mother, but still impressively disturbing. "Could disobey and stay against her wishes," she suggested, although she suspected that was not something Jeff was up for.

"She'd find me," Jeff replied, with all the mentality of a man about to be hanged.

River didn't bother to question this. "Face your fears is sometimes the wisest thing to do." She picked up an apple from the fruitbowl, pleased to notice that Mary seemed to have listened to her suggestion.

"There's a transfer in London, though," Jeff replied, waving the ticket around just in case that would bring the point home (the waving, blurring the letters, probably had the opposite effect, if it had any at all). "And Nana's coming. Perhaps I can plan an escape when she's least expecting it. Like in Jupiter Assaults, with the puppy."

River wasn't familiar with Jupiter Assaults, but got a clear enough idea from Jeff's mind. "Wouldn't it be easier for her to find you in London than here?" River asked, as it was a kind of obvious question. "Could hide you in my spaceship."

"She knows I'm here!" Jeff flailed. "But if I escape in London, I can make my way up to Scotland and hide with the sheep for a weekend! That's the beauty of it, you see, I've come to Britain like she asked, and yet I'm not actually with her! I can just come home afterwards, and I'll have done as she asked. It's entirely fool-proof."

And thought up by an entire fool, at that.

River's face lit up. "I've been to Scotland. Beautiful place. Met vampires!"

Nana is napping after a job well done, leaving you with access to all your hotel staff moddables.

I hide Jeff a lot nao.
