Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Tuesday

Ino wasn't happy to be at work today. On the other hand being at work meant she hopefully wouldn’t have to think too hard about what had happened over the weekend. Which could only be a good thing.

Sweeping the floor and dusting the shelves took her longer than usual and after she flipped the sign to Open Ino curled up with a book and tried to read.

Tried being the key word. The weekend kept intruding.

She'll probably flail about the weekend.

Kabuto didn't have to go visit Ino...but he was an instigator. He did things like that.

"So," he said, crossing his arms. "...Married?"

And look! It was the very last person she wanted to see today. Ino slumped forward and buried her head in her arms.

"I don't know how it happened," Ino declared, her voice slightly muffled, "but it wasn't my idea."

Kabuto had had a feeling Ino wouldn't want to see him. All the more reason to go see her! "And I'm sure the twins weren't either?" he asked innocently, raising an eyebrow.

Her face flamed because she couldn't deny that. No way could she deny that.

"Go away." It was almost an order.

She doubted it would be obeyed.

Kabuto was good at following orders. When he wanted to. "Why? I only asked you a question, Ino-san." He almost sparkled with innocence.

Ino wasn't fooled. "The only reason you came down here is to bug me about the weekend," she said flatly, "I married you in some twisted future. Which is traumatizing enough to handle without your presence here."

"So, you referring to me as your 'boyfriend' was just you forgetting who I am?" Kabuto asked, smiling. "Try harder."

Now she was glaring at him. And blushing. Which probably made her look slightly ridiculous.

"You weren't supposed to hear that!"

"Don't say it where people can hear you, then," Kabuto advised her, moving closer to her in the blink of an eye. "Unless you mean it, of course." He smiled, leaning forward to kiss her cheek.

"I did mean it!" Ino snapped, pushing her chair back so he was further away, "You still weren't supposed to hear it!"

Ahhh, Ino-logic. It made sense to her.

"So then why did this weekend freak you out so much?" Honestly? Both of the futures Kabuto had been given insight into didn't sit well with him. It made him want to go home right now and kill Sasuke; and damn the consequences.

Ino gaped at him. Wasn't it obvious?! "Kids! Marriage! Sound! I called him Orochimaru-sama!" That last was said despairingly.

"The kids and the marriage I suppose I can understand," Kabuto admitted. "You really seemed to like Otogakure when you mentioned it before. It's not so different from Konoha." He paused, then shrugged. "Orochimaru-sama is Orochimaru-sama. I don't see why you wouldn't call him that."

"But I meant it! I, I followed his orders. Happily!" Ino was horrified by this, "I'm not supposed to be evil!"

It might be worth noting that she found the marriage less disturbing than that.

"You're much too upset by that," Kabuto told her. Ino's priorities had not gone unnoticed, but he didn't remark on it immediately. "Besides, how do you know that future is going to happen?"

"How do I know it's not?" Ino countered, "And marrying Shikamaru doesn't strike me as a good thing either."

That would just be boring. Geez.

"The future is changeable." With either future, Kabuto figured he was pretty well screwed. "And I intend to change it the next time I go home." And if Orochimaru killed him for eliminating Sasuke? Well, so be it. Getting rid of that infuriating little Uchiha bastard was more than worth it.

That made her blink. "How do you plan to change it?"

She was more than willing to carry on with this topic and never, ever touch upon the cheating, but not, thing. Or, how had the radio put it? Her fling with Kabuto.

"Sasuke needs to die," Kabuto told her, his voice light, like he was simply commenting on the weather.

Ino stared at him. "Won't Orochimaru be, like, pissed at you?" 'Cause uhhhh, yeah. "And how is that supposed to help?!"

"Probably. But that's okay." Kabuto smiled. "It will change the future. It might help; it might not. But it will change it."

"It's not okay," Ino snapped, "it's an awful idea - you shouldn't plan on your getting hurt like that." She might have been worried about him. "Even if it would change things!"

Why do I get the feeling it's going to be a loooong week?
