Devil's Nest, Wednesday Night 11/28

Kabuto was, naturally, behind the bar with a book. He'd abandoned it long enough to make sure the place was well and thoroughly clean, but that was about it. The book was far, far more interesting than work, anyway.

Ino was pretty hard to ignore all things considered. And she had no intentions of letting him ignore her tonight.

She showed up, snuck inside beaming, and quickly headed straight for him. He was getting a hug tonight, yes. Whether he liked it or not.

It wasn't that Kabuto didn't notice her. It was just that he didn't really care at the moment. The book was far more interesting than Ino trying to be sneaky.

Ino was too happy to try and be really sneaky. She considered the bar briefly before taking the path of least resistance and simply going over it, touching down lightly close to him, Ino went to fling her arms around him. Gleefully.

Kabuto's reaction to the sudden hug? He turned the page.

It was testament to her good humor that Ino just grinned and tightened her hold slightly. She rested her head against his arm and said, "You're my favourite person ever right now."

"Hmm," Kabuto replied, sounding supremely disinterested. "That's nice. You're blocking the light."

Ino poked him in the side. "Don't you want to know why?" Then she shifted, just slightly, to block a wee bit more light.

"Not particularly. It's probably nothing worth being terribly excited over, anyway." He didn't look up from the book. "You're acting like a small dog."

"I am not." Ino retorted, with a smidge of heat, "I'm just happy that's all. And it's totally exciting! Geez."

"Which is why you're here, hm?" Kabuto asked, disinterested. "So, give your reason and be done with it. That way you can leave."

"I just thought you'd want to know," Ino said, frowning at him, "that I healed Annette's bruises today." She was pretty proud of that. See? It was exciting.

"Good to see you found your confidence," Kabuto said, turning to the next page in the book. "It's about time."

"You could try being happy for me. I wouldn't have been able to do it less than two weeks ago." She snapped. Then her eyes narrowed and Ino decided she'd had enough of being mostly ignored in favour of a book.

She leaned forward to try and snatch it away from him.

Kabuto slammed the book shut, not bothering to watch for any fingers. "I'll be happy for you when you can actually accomplish something that isn't a simple exercise for children," he told her coldly.

Ino glared at him as she shook her hand out. Jerk. That had hurt! "I've got nearly the entire scroll memorized, so if you want me to go further it looks like you're going to have to give me something else to read, Kabuto-sensei." Yeah, the good mood from earlier? Rapidly vanishing.

"And so you're coming here, where I have none of my materials, to tell me this? You're so intelligent, Ino-kun." Kabuto pushed his glasses up. "If you really want your next practical lesson, I can provide it." He picked up a large knife from under the bar; not threatening with it, but holding it loosely just so she could see it.

"You are not stabbing me with that." Ino told him flatly, "And I figured a) that you'd be pleased with my progress, and b) that it's politer to come and tell you I need more study materials than just breaking into your room and taking whatever looked interesting."

"I'm not planning to, and you could always come see me when I'm actually in my room." Kabuto passed the knife from hand to hand, then spun it around his fingers like a kunai. "I wouldn't ask you to do self-healing until much later. It's more complicated, and also much more exhausting."

"Would you be 'pleased with my progress' if I made it that far?" She eyed the knife, "And I've come to visit you down here before, is it really that much of a surprise? ... and I'd rather you didn't stab yourself either, really."

"You might get there, eventually," Kabuto told her. "And stabbing and slashing are two entirely different things." He set the blade against the upper part of his arm, just above his glove. "Or are you not yet ready?"

Where there is an eclectic mix of music, ranging from country to enka to thrash metal.
