Gabriel had woken up from a bad dream that included difficulties in breathing, to a waking state that including having a purring cat sitting on his chest staring at him. As if that wasn't enough, the cat poked his nose. He screamed and waved his arms, which seemed to be the reaction the cat had wanted, as she jumped away and trotted over to her bowl and miaowed.

Gabriel was in shock. This was the reason he gave to having climbed out of bed to feed the cat.
