The Perk, after classes

Charlie settled in with her notebook full of questions and a mocha, and waited for Detective Montoya to get off-shift. In the mean-time, there were the further adventures of Lieutenant Ildiko and Officer Z to finish, now that they'd met the underground resistance cell and were hiking toward enemy territory.

She looked terribly professional in Renee's opinion. As much as a teenager could, at least. Shaking her hand firmly, there was a small half smile on Renee's face.

"Not a problem. Always happy to help the press."

There was a joke there. Somewhere.

"Gotham City," Renee said, saying it like it should be known as well as New York or Chicago. She placed her coffee on the table, sitting down before even acknowledging the second part of the question. "I was transfered here."

It wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the truth either.

"We have a guy who dresses as a bat to fight crime," Renee told her dryly. "You decide."

Renee shrugged. "Depends on who you ask, really."

"I think..." She didn't know what the hell she thought about The Bat. He was there, he'd damn near always been there to most Gothamites. "That we need more good cops so he won't be necessary."

"Other than a kid with a fish arm?" Renee asked, smirking more than a little at the memory.

Poor kid, never going to live that one down.

"And the invasions. I've read a few reports on those."

"Cooper mentioned that one," Renee said, sipping her coffee.

She sat back, thinking about the question. That was what she was trying to answer here, wasn't it?

"What any cop wants. To protect the city and citizens in it."

Total cop out answer, but she couldn't think of a real one.

She nodded, smiling at Charlie's interest. "In a town like Gotham, you have to be a good guy or a bad guy to survive."

"Work out, read, watch TV," Renee replied with a small shrug. "My job is usually enough to keep me from doing anything crazy on my time off."

Not one to give a sound byte to the press, Renee just smiled and shook her head. "Just to refrain from starting a crime wave. We're swamped with paperwork as it is," She deadpanned.

Chuckling as well, Renee shook her head again. "Just stay out of trouble. I'd hate to have to arrest you."

"I will." And she'd certainly know who to talk to if it wasn't very flattering. Not that she would, but it was still there. "Have a good evening."
