Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Tuesday

Her routine of sweeping and dusting took her way longer than normal thanks to having to deal with a droid!baby at the same time. Ino supposed that she should be grateful Kabu-chan wasn't screaming again.

Settling back behind the desk, Ino attempted to study. Kabu-chan was a fairly good distraction though.

Renee found her way on into the shop today. A good shooting range needed to be checked out, or else she'd have to go looking on the mainland.

"You in charge?" She asked, giving Ino a look of slight disbelief.

Ino looked up from playing with Kabu-chan. Oh, hey! A customer, or something. She straightened up, careful to keep the baby comfortable, and gave the woman a smile. "I work here," she said, "so I guess I'm in charge for the day. Can I help you with anything?"

A kid barely old enough to be in high school? Well that just had a glowing endorsement for the place.

"The shooting range, it open for use?"

Charming person, really. Ino was perfectly responsible enough to work here.

"It can be, if you've got permission from Cable-san." Ino looked expectantly at the woman.

"Cable-san?"

"He owns the store." Ino said helpfully, shifting Kabu-chan when he started to squirm. "And he's really tall and hard to miss. It's all the metal."

Yeah, Renee didn't think he'd be hard to find with a description like that.

"And I need to talk to him about getting to see this?" Renee asked, rubbing her forehead. "Is this the same for everyone?"

Cable-san really was hard to miss though. Really! Ino was telling the truth.

"I'm not allowed to let anyone in unless they're on the list. And since he hasn't given me a list yet..." Ino shrugged, "But yeah, everyone's got to get him to sign off on it for now."

She could not believe some kid was telling her this. "Fine. When'll Cable-san be in?"

"He minds the store Monday and Friday." Ino said, with a 'helpful' smile. Man, why couldn't someone friendly have shown up? She bit her tongue to keep from saying anything rude.

Renee was being very friendly.

Considering how annoyed by this she was, at least.

"I'll stop by then," Renee said, eying the arms part of the store. "And I'll hope he isn't selling any kids weapons."

"Don't think he would, really. Cable-san's big on peace." And yet he owned a weapon store. It made sense to her. She shrugged, "But it also depends on if he thinks a person is responsible enough for it."

"There are laws, kid," Renee told her, like she was simple.

That got an incredulous stare from Ino. "What? About weapons?" It was pathetically easy to get weapons back home, and Ino hadn't actually thought about it being different here. Except for the annoyance of not being allowed to have them up at the school. "But that's stupid."

"And so is letting a kid have guns so they can kill themselves or others."

Ino didn't look convinced, "How is that different from letting adults kill people? There's a bunch of us who are used to hurting people without guns anyway. Guns don't even exist back home."

"And I'll arrest the adults with guns that don't have a license for them too," Renee said, tapping the badge on her belt. "Trust me on this one kid, you don't want guns then."

More staring. "You need a license to own a weapon?"

"To own a gun, yeah."

Long pause. "How many people can find out that you own a gun by looking for a license? Because uh, I can see why people wouldn't want to get one then."

Renee sighed, shaking her head at the girl. "The license is to make sure people know what they're doing with the weapon and that it won't fall into the wrong hands."

"But what's the point if you got it for protection and the bad guys can just find out that you've got it?" Ino asked, confused, "It seems like that would... defeat the purpose."

"Those are the assholes I arrest," Renee said, not believing this could could be that naive. "People without a license are the bad guys. They're the ones who kill and hurt people. And they don't have access to the damn records. Christ kid, you work at a freaking gun shop and you don't know this?"

"I don't deal with the guns." Ino said, irriated, "Cable-san hired me for the meditation part of the store, and he refuses to even tell me the names of all the guns."

"Good," Renee said after a pause. "You don't need to know them. To young for this shit."

"I'm definitely considered old enough to kill someone, back home." Ino snapped, "I don't see what harm learning one more way of doing so would do me."

Renee gave her a look, somewhere between pity and disgust. "You shouldn't proud of that. No one should be."

"Depends on your world. Depends on your job." Ino would've crossed her arms had she not been holding Kabu-chan. Kabu-chan was starting to look upset. "And there's nothing wrong with being proud of what you're good at."

"Well, where I come from, the only people who kill 'because they're good at it' deserve to get locked up," Renee said.

"That's not how it is." Were they talking at cross-purposes or something? Geez. "You kill people because Hokage-sama orders it. Or if they get in the way of an important mission. But you can be proud of the skill in which you did the job. There's a difference."

"You ever killed someone before, kid?"

"No." Ino looked defiant, "But I've been in the minds of people who have." Her Dad for one. "I don't think I'll have a problem."

"Tell me when you've watched someone die on you. When you've seen what happens after, to their family," Renee said, turning away in disgust and walking toward the door. "Killing is the easy part, it's living with yourself after that's the bitch."

"If you say so," Ino said dubiously, "but most people I know don't have a problem with it. It's just business as usual."

"Fun little group of psychopaths you know there." Renee opened the door looking back. "I ever hear about you hurting anyone here, kid, I'll show you just how dangerous a gun can be."

"The only person I'm likely to hurt here is my boyfriend." Ino said sweetly, going back to her studying, "And he finds it funny." Because, you know, he'd totally kick her butt in a fight.

Mod your meditation, or ask Ino to help.

It's not for everyone though. You've gotta have permission from Cable-san.

And I'll be back in the evening to pick up pings, if any!
