"I'll have to stop by later then," Ino grinned, "and laugh at him." Because she was like that.

She shrugged, "That'll be fine, it'll take Dad at least a few days to get what I want anyway, and then with it getting back to me... I know it's late, but I didn't even know there was a holiday until a few days ago." Ino looked sheepish, "I'm pretty sure that who I'm giving it to will be understanding though."

[So sorry for taking so long to respond! I didn't get the notification! *facepalms* ]

"You're a friend of A.J.'s?" Beauty asked, unconsciously turning up the wattage of her smile as she spoke. She stuck out her hand. "I'm Beauty ~~and my mun is kind of sure we haven't met?~~."

She nodded understandingly as she sorted out the appropriate stamps for the letter. "We celebrate Christmas where I come from, but not really to the extent that they do here, I think. With all the decorations and parties and things that seem to be going on."

"Yes! He's a lot of fun." Ino shook the offered hand, with a speculative narrowing of her eyes, was this the girlfriend that Annette had mentioned to her? That smile made her think so. "I'm Yamanaka Ino, ~~and this mun doesn't think they've met either~~."

"I think they should have, like, a list or something at the start of the year to tell us when the big holidays are." Ino offered, "We don't celebrate most of them in my world. Except New Year's, but I think almost everyone celebrates that in some form or other."

"Yamanako Ino," Beauty repeated. "That's a pretty name." She was definitely going to have to do some reading about Japan, now that she knew A.J. had a friend from there.

"A list would help a lot, I think," she agreed, grinning. "And maybe they could include a few important tips, like how the lightswitches and telephones work."

Ino's lips twisted in amusement at the compliment. "It's a family thing," she said cheerfully, "Dad's named Inoichi."

"Oh no, I bet that made adjusting harder for you, didn't it? Assuming you're talking about yourself, of course." Ino shook her head, "We've got a lot of the basic technology, but nothing on such a... grand scale. It's a lot rarer in my world."

"I'm from the past," Beauty explained. "Before a lot of the things here have been invented. Definitely before things like telephones and films. I'm still learning, but you should have seen me during my first few weeks here. It must have been pretty pitiful to see."

"Ooooh. This world's past? Like Evie and her wars that are over now in this time? Was it hard adjusting?" Ino wondered, "Because the school was the weirdest thing for me, but..."

"I guess it's this world's past," Beauty replied, nodding. "I do know that we have the same authors and artists as this time does. There's about three hundred years difference, I think."

She grinned at the memory of her arrival. "It's definitely the weirdest place I've ever been, but I think being away from my family has been the hardest adjustment. What about you?"

"The hardest?" Ino shrugged, "I wanted to come here to get away from home for a bit, so that wasn't a surprise." She considered, "The weirdest thing, besides the classes, was meeting someone here who has been dead almost fourteen years back in my world - nearly my whole life! - alive and well."

"Really?" Beauty's eyes widened, and she thought about Robbie, and what it might be like for Grace to come to a place like this and see him. "Was it hard for you? I guess if he'd been dead nearly your whole life, you didn't really have any memories of him, but it must have been strange."

"He 'died' a hero back home," Ino said, "saving us from a demon fox. I know a bit about him 'cause my Dad was one of his friends. There's even baby pictures of me with him. It's... weird." She rubbed her nose, and looked sheepish, "The letter I'm sending actually has to do with him."

"It must have been something to meet a hero," Beauty mused. She looked solemnly at Ino's letter, and affixed the postage to it. "I'll do what I can to make sure it gets there quickly."

"He's really nice," Ino enthused, "but I'm always a bit... intimidated by him, you know? I mean, he's like a legend, and... I'm just me."

She smiled, "Thank you. It's just for pictures but..." Ino looked down, "he's got a kid back home, only a few weeks younger than me, and he never got to raise him. I thought pictures of his child's past might be a good idea."

Beauty nodded, understanding completely. "I would feel just the same if I ever met Homer, or Sophocles. I probably wouldn't know what to say, and make a fool out of myself."

Ino's explanation about the letter made her smile, and she silently promised to take especial care with it before it went into the mail. "I bet he'll love that. I have a niece and nephew that my sister sends me stories about, and I wish I had pictures of them to keep. Your friend will be grateful that you thought of it, I think."

Ino had no idea who those people were, but she got the gist of what Beauty was saying. "It's just... there's such a big difference, and then I start thinking that there's no way someone like that would care about what I'm doing with my time."

"I hope so," she said, "and Dad'll probably write me an embarrassing letter about how my Mom's influence is showing again. But I thought that'd be what he'd like the most, we don't really talk about his personal life much, you know?" Pause. "And I still need to figure out what to get his husband. It’d be rude not to, don’t you think?"

"I know exactly what you mean. Someone like that, it would make you feel so small to be around them, like you hadn't really done anything to...to deserve their notice."

Beauty frowned thoughtfully at Ino's question, nodding slowly. "I guess if you're getting a gift for someone who's half of a couple, you shouldn't leave the other person out. Um...he has a husband?"

"I know," Ino said, "I was pretty surprised to find that Yondaime-sama was married. And to Deadpool-san, of all people." She added hastily, "Don't get me wrong! I really like Deadpool-san, because he doesn't beat around the bush when I ask him things, it's just... hard to picture."

"Oh! Professor Deadpool teaches one of my classes!" Beauty exclaimed. "I have to admit, I had a hard time getting used to him, he's just so...unusual. But he does seem nice. I just didn't realize he was...I mean, I don't think men marry each other where I come from. There are a lot of things that are different there."

Like public boykissy, and girls going to college, for starters.

"It's not exactly common where I come from either, but..." she lifted her shoulders in something that wasn't quite a shrug, "I guess it works for them, so it's really none of my business. I just don't know what to get him."

"I know he likes beer, ANTM, and bothering Cable-san 'cause they're friends, but that's about it."

"Is there anyplace that brews exceptionally good ale?" Beauty suggested. "And I know he has a really strong...affection for a woman named Bea Arthur. I'm still not actually sure who she is, but I'm a little afraid to tell him that."

"I could try the Devil's Nest, since the zombies in Caritas kinda creep me out," Ino said, looking thoughtful, "and maybe I'll do a bit of research about, Bea Arthur? That's it, right?" Maybe something would spark an idea while she did that.

Ino eyed Beauty for a few seconds before grinning, "What do you think of the colour green?"

"I'm never setting foot in Caritas again," Beauty stated firmly. "I got drunk and fell on the floor and embarrassed myself, and I had the worst head the next day." She wasn't sure which had been worse, the hangover or the embarrassment. "I bet there's a book in the library about Bea Arthur. The library has got to have every book every written."

She smiled at Ino's question, a little curious about why it was being asked. "I love green, it's one of my favorite colors."

"Dad says to drink a lot of water before sleeping, if you've had a lot to drink," Ino said helpfully, "that's supposed to help. But he also said he doesn't want to hear about me drinking ever so..." She grinned, "I'll definitely try the library - they've had everything I've needed in there so far. They even had a book all about the plants associated with Christmas."

Ino beamed at that. "Excellent!" She wondered what Beauty would say when she saw A.J.'s hair. Oh yes.

"I don't think I plan on doing anything like that again, but if I ever do, I'll remember your father's advice," Beauty said, sounding grateful for it.

She eyed Ino, still wondering why green was so excellent, but feeling too hesitant about asking.

Once she found out, though, A.J. would probably pout over how hard Beauty would be laughing.

Ino grinned, "I hope it helps, just in case - you never know what'll happen."

She wouldn't have told Beauty why even if she'd been asked. It was too good a thing to spoil.

"How much do I owe you for the letter?"
