Fandom Post Office, Wednesday (12/19)

Beauty hadn't grown up with the flashy holiday trappings she was starting to see cropping up, but they were making her feel a little homesick anyway. So while she sat behind the counter, she composed a set of letters home. Maybe she'd ask A.J. if he'd do a quick drawing or something to include.

Annette beamed. "You think so? And what sort of lawyers do you have, Beauty? Do women not further their education if they want?"

"No, they don't," Beauty answered, shaking her head. "I'm more educated than any of the women I know from home, including my old governesses. I guess there are maybe a few, here and there, who are brave enough and have the means to do it. Maybe if things had been different, and we hadn't needed to leave the city, my father would have found a way to help me get further on. But I don't know that I've have had the nerve to go and study law. I think that's impressive, Annette. I really do."

"Thank you, Beauty, that means a lot," she said, smiling. It was sad in a way, that Beauty's life was pretty much planned already. She remembered her telling her about Beast that day when she rode Greatheart. What kind of a life did Beauty have to look forward to?

Beauty leaned her chin on her hand and stared off into space for a moment. "A.J. thinks it might be possible that if I don't go back to my own time, and just stay in this one, I might be able to not have to go back. At least not right away. That maybe the Beast doesn't know I'm missing because it hasn't happened."

Which opened up a world of possibilities, if Beauty felt brave enough.

"Oh my goodness, that is certainly an idea, isn't it? But... how would you know?"

"I wouldn't know until I tried it." Beauty smiled at Annette, feeling excited about the idea. "But I have no idea when he'll send for me even if all of that isn't true. So maybe...maybe it would be worth trying."

"I think it could be," she said, thinking about it. "It's true though, you know? Being here could change everything and... what if he sends for you but here, it's like forever from now? You could have so much time, Beauty!"

"That's...that's sort of what I was thinking. I mean, I've come forward in time without living through it all, right? So...in a way, that means it hasn't happened yet, not for everyone back home, and maybe that also means so long as I'm here, it's like it's all just stopped!"

Annette smiled brightly. "Yes! What a wonderful thing, uh? That means that you can do what you like; have fun and just be you!"

Beauty's expression softened, and she looked thoughtful once again. "I'd like that. To be able to just be me, and do what I like."

Then she shook her head vigorously. "God, I sound like I had such a deprived childhood. I'll think about coming with you, Annette. Maybe it'll be a good test."

"You do that, Beauty. And just let me know. If not, I hope you enjoy your holiday break and I'll see you when I get back."

"I'll be sure and track you down before you leave, Annette," Beauty promised. "And thank you so much for the gift!"

"You're very welcome! See you later!" She waved and smiled then left.
