J,GOB, Friday Afternoon

The only difficult part about agreeing to go fiend-hunting over break was telling Jaina. Of course, if he wasn't going to Spira, he'd be going home, so regardless they were going to be apart again. But John needed some adventure in his life and maybe a little perspective and going home would suck. A lot.

Having agreed to meet up and talk, John grabbed himself a coffee and found a table in the corner where he sat, waiting.

Jaina arrived, still shivering a little as she walked in, happy to be indoors. There was something to be said for time spent on ships. And in temperate climates. Or even moons with jungles.

She ordered a hot chocolate to bring over, greeting him with a smile and a "Fancy meeting you here."

"Hey," he grinned, pushing out a chair for her and taking in her shivering appearance. "Don't tell me it's too cold for you?"

"Don't worry, I think I'll make do," she said, taking the offered seat. "I feel like I should blame the heat escaping my head." Good thing she could joke about it.

"A hot drink will help in any case," he said, glad she was making jokes about it.

She held up her hot chocolate before taking a sip, careful not to burn her tongue. "How are you doing?"

"I'm pretty excited actually," he said, big smile spreading across his face. "How are you, other than cold?"

"Can't complain," Jaina shrugged. "Why excited?"

"Rikku invited me to join her on a fiend-hunt over break," he nearly bounced. Hopefully bouncing wasn't catching. "No going home to suffer parental torment."

"That's good," she said, knowing he wasn't big on his family. "Fiend-hunting?"

"Yeah, some nasty alien thing," he had no clue, really, he was just happy to get to do something. "Apparently there's a whole bunch of them that need to be gotten rid of in some dungeons."

Jaina was discovering something. She could go off on all her little adventures, even hear about other people's afterwards, and that was fine. But hearing about it beforehand, she couldn't help but worry a tiny bit. "You'll be careful?" she asked, figuring she had to with him, given the meat smell thing and the drunken vandalism.

"Of course," he told her, understanding where she was coming from. "And there's a healer coming along so if I do get hurt, it won't last long." He found no flaw in his plan.

She tilted her head a little, frowning. "I'd much rather you avoided getting hurt at all." That was her job.

"Like you did?" he teased. Okay, so maybe he was still not completely over her injuries.

"Exactly. Learn from me," she said, though she was serious about that. She wasn't over her injuries, either.

"I'll be hunting," he said. "I'll have both a team and the element of surprise on my side."

"Good weaponry?" This may have been her way to hide her concern.

"Only the best," he didn't want her to worry. "Rikku's going to make me some armor, too."

"Good," she said, appreciating that Rikku thought that much. "Do you know how long you'll be gone?"

"We're heading out sometime Sunday and I should be back next Saturday," he replied, hoping he remembered correctly. "Not long at all."

She nodded, remembering that thinking that was a long time would be incredibly hypocritical of her, but the simple fact was, she wasn't used to being the one staying behind. "We can survive a week," she said with a little smile.

"At least it's not all of break," he said. "Which reminds me, your grandfather gave me some great ideas for some fun break activities. Have you ever jumped off a building or out of a plane?"

She looked a little confused. "Not out of a plane, but I could probably manage a pretty good distance from... My grandfather suggested this?"

"He was telling me how Jedi could ignore gravity," John explained. "Have you ever tried that?"

"Well, I wouldn't say ignore. More like use it to your advantage," Jaina said. This felt more comfortable. "But yeah. Quite a few times, actually."
