Wellspring Arms: Wednesday

Ed was vaguely surprised to find no owner in sight when he made his way into the Arms for his first real day of work.  He glanced at the door up to the apartment, wondering if he was brooding hiding studying up there, but it wasn't like he needed Cable anyway.  So he pulled the far too many books he'd brought out of his backpack and began eyeing  the weapons present to figure out how best not to sell them. 

Wellspring Arms was, as far as it could be, open.

Ed, on the other hand, was reading.

There were some sights that you just had to stop what you were doing for to see. And make sure you were seeing it right.

"Aren't you on the wrong side of the counter?" Roy asked, letting the door fall shut behind him, gratefully leaving the cold outside.

"No," Ed answered shortly, not looking up from his book.

"Are you certain?" Roy asked. "Standing on that side actually implies that you're working here."

"I am working here," he replied, looking up. "Why wouldn't I?"

"You realise they actually sell guns here?" Roy checked, not unfamiliar with Ed's dislike.

"Not when I'm here," Ed said, looking stubborn.

Roy raised an eyebrow, but he looked mostly amused. "That's one way to change the system."

"Never had a problem changing the system before," he argued.

"Wiping your feet on the system and changing it are two different things, Ed," Roy pointed out.

He shrugged. "The addition of any new element can't help but change the make up of an organism."

Roy raised an eyebrow, but he let it be as he glanced at the books. "Found anything helpful?"

Ino had just been passing by when the fact that the store was open caught her eye. Huh?

She slipped into the shop and asked, "Have we always been open on Wednesday or is this a new thing?"

"Oh good," she said, "I'd hate to think I hadn't noticed."

"Why? Do you notice everything?" he asked, looking skeptical.

She rolled her eyes. "No, but I work here Tuesdays - if I didn't know when the shop was open the rest of the week that'd make me look pretty silly. What if someone asked?"

"Oh, yeah, okay. But you could always just tell them that you didn't want to spoil the surprise if they came back," Ed said. "You're Ino? I'm Edward."

"Nice to meet you! And yes, I'm Ino. Somehow I don't think that'd count as good customer service," Ino said, grinning, "though I'm not so sure Cable-san would mind."

"He told me to argue with anyone who wanted to buy something," Edward said, sounding pleased with the idea. "I don't think he cares."

"That's because he's awesome." Ino liked her boss, yes. "Are you allowed to sell anything though? If they really want something?"

"Why would I?" he asked, the idea seeming distasteful to him. "People shouldn't need guns. They're just a weapon. No other good to it."
