Trooper Station - Saturday

The Trooper Station was open today, but then it never closed. The eternal battle between Sheriff Roy Mustang and his paperwork unmercifully continued. The paperwork was winning, but Roy wouldn't admit it to anyone. He'd been doing some over hours the past week, but nothing as bad as one would expect. Or at least, as he would have excepted, he had a vague theory on why too.

There was a stack of folders on one side of his desk and on the other there was a pile of paperclips. Paperclips which he was folding and trying to make into transmutation circles. It wasn't going too well and occasionally the paperclips would fight back from their treatment.

((Open, of course! For the newbies, you really don't need an emergency to come bug the police force.))

"Sheriff Mustang, you look bored," Fraser said as he came through the door. "If you've completed all your paperwork, you're doing quite a bit better than me."

Roy laughed and put his next paperclip aside. "That's my in pile actually," he confided. "Good day, Constable Fraser."

"And to you as well," he said with a nod. "I suppose I can take comfort that your in pile is much larger than mine. How are you, Sheriff? Did you have a good holiday?"

"That's not very comforting to me, though," Roy replied and motioned towards the chair on the other side of the desk for Fraser to sit down. "I believe it was, it was my first Christmas so it's hard to compare but it was enjoyable. How about you, Constable?"

Fraser took the offered chair and said, "It was quiet which was actually what I was hoping for. I spent it at home, talked to friends and family back home and relaxed, mostly. I don't usually do much for Christmases anyway. Anytime I get to relax is time I'll take and savor."

Roy nodded. "Especially in Fandom it seems that you need to take the quiet moments to their fullest," he replied. "Admittedly, I don't usually take much notice of them. Comes with the job, I suppose."

"Indeed," Fraser agreed. "I promised someone I would relax so I did. Did you spend New Year's Eve at any wild parties in good company?"

"I believe I must be getting old as I spent it here at the station too," he shook his head. "A shame really, the kissing tradition is rather nice."

"It really is," Fraser agreed with a grin. "One I hadn't really taken the time to experience until recently. You do go home sometimes, right, Sheriff?"

Roy smirked. "Lucky man then," he remarked, sounding amused but it faded a little as he answered the next question. "Occasionally, but they're usually not pleasure visits. Politics in Amestris can get complicated."

"Very lucky," he agreed before nodding. "I have never known politics to be smooth and easy and speak as someone who doesn't like getting involved in such things. Are you involved in politics back home?"

Roy gave him a wry smile. "Amestris until very recently was a military state," he replied. "Any officer inescapably played some political role as well. Things have changed now, but it's all so recent that the military still gets to play a high role and not everyone likes seeing the minimised." It didn't explain why someone who was a mere Corporal played a role in it, however.

"Better you than me," Fraser joked lightly. "No one wants me to be involved in politics. The country would inevitably fall into shambles. If I should need any political help, you'll be the first one I call."

Roy laughed. "If you don't mind playing the underdog. Please don't tell Aly I said any of this, I wouldn't hear the end of it."

"She's determined to get me into leather," Fraser said dryly. "I won't utter a word. You said until recently Amestris had been a military stage. Was there a recent development that changed that?"

"It must be an Aly thing then," Roy mused, owing Aly leather as well. "Our military leader was using the military and the country for his own agenda. He was overthrown and replaced, the new leader restored our civilian government."

"Was the changeover easy or difficult?" Fraser asked curiously. "From what I've read of Earth's history, things like that can go either way. Sometimes they're peaceful and for the better and other times, there is a lot of opposition opposed to such a change."

"It's a steady progress," Roy replied. "It... seems to be going well. We made sure to settle peace treaties with our neighbouring countries before handing over control so at least they wouldn't have to deal with that too."

He made a face. "It seems to be going well, but there's some opposition within the military. People who don't like to give back the power they hold now. I suppose we'll see how it goes."

"There's always opposition to anything these days," Fraser said and laughed. "It's a hobby, I believe. But, I'm glad to hear it's been mostly peaceful. If this should happen in your country's future, at least there's a precedence of changing things peacefully."

"It'd be a first actually," Roy said wryly. "What about Canada? What's it like?"

"Cold," he said, smiling. "Covered in snow. Quiet. I haven't been back in about two years but I get regular updates. I'm from the Northwest Territories area mostly so I'm not completely familiar with Canadian city life but...cold seems to be the best adjective to use."

Roy chuckled. "Sounds familiar. Before I was stationed here, I served a year at the northern border. It doesn't seem to stop snowing there, no matter the season."

Laughing, Fraser said, "So, when people here complain about being cold, you just smile politely and nod like I do?"

"Depends," Roy smirked. "If it's a good looking woman I might consider offers of warming up, but usually yes."

"Ah, priorities," Fraser said and laughed. "Have you been able to warm a good looking woman so far this season?"
