Book Haven: Monday 10-5PM [1-7-08]

Millie opened the store and set out treats for the customers. Then she put up HELP WANTED signs in the windows.

Sometime in the afternoon, Makoto was wandering the town to get a better idea of the layout when he found the bookstore. He considered the fact that they were hiring, and nodded. It would give him a source of income that didn't depend on his father. That could only be a good thing.

Entering the store he approached the counter, putting on his best 'I'm-really-a-girl' smile and saying, "Excuse me?"

Millie smiled at him. "Hello. How can I help you?"

"I saw your sign," he said, smoothing down the front of his dress, "and I was wondering what days you were hiring?"

[At the moment Makoto is dressed and acting like a girl, Millie shouldn't be reacting to him as a guy, please.]

"At the moment," Millie said, "All days are available. Are you interested in working here? It is quite a lovely place if I do say so myself!"

"I'd like to, yes." Makoto said looking around the shop, "I've always liked to read," he continued, "especially plays, and working at a bookstore would give me an opportunity to further that interest while gaining experience in a real job."

"That sounds perfect!" Millie said. "The store is open 10-5 on weekdays and 10-2 on weekends. It's most helpful for me if you can work a full day. You'd be responsible for helping customers, keeping things neatened up, and setting out tea and coffee and pastries for the customers each day. Which day would work best for you?"

"I'm free all day Wednesday and Thursday," he told her smiling, mentally making note of his duties, "either day is good for me. Perhaps Wednesday, then?"

"Wednesday sounds wonderful," Millie said with a smile. "And might I know your name?"

There would be some mental facepalming there. "I'm sorry," he said, sounding sheepish, "It's Makoto Amano."

"Wonderful to meet you, Makoto," Millie said with a smile. "Can you start this Wednesday? My apartment is right upstairs so I'll be nearby if you have any questions. Also, there's always soft drinks and some treats in the back room that the employees are welcome to."

"This Wednesday should be fine," he told her still sounding sheepish, "and I'll make sure to ask you any questions I come up with. Thank you very much, Ms... ah, I'm sorry, your name?"

That did make him feel a little less silly. But only a little. At least he wasn't the only one that had forgotten to introduce himself.

"Millie," she said with a smile. "I tend to be quite forgetful about names and such. And I'm glad to have you starting work for me on Wednesday!"

"I won't let you down." he promised her with a smile, "I'll be here."

"Wonderful!" Millie said. "I will see you then!"
