He was down in the town looking for a clothing shop (specifically, the one that Terry had mentioned since it was the only one he'd heard of) when he saw the sign.

He'd never been allowed in a bookshop, especially not looking as he did, but this place seemed to be different in so many ways, so he figured it might be worth attempting it.

He made sure to stay out of the way, out of sight of the main window as much as possible. He'd use his first paycheck for clothes if he managed to get the job, or ask Miss Lulu if he'd be allowed to wear his class uniform to his job until he could buy some of his own. And books!

He could buy books of his own. Own books. The very idea was wonderful.

As it was, a rather raggedly dressed young man made his way to Millie.

"Ma'am? Is the position advertised still open?"

He looked around the bookstore as if that should be obvious.

There had been many books at Kiamo Ko... but almost all of them had been out of his reach. Sarima's books had been left as they were, a still memorial to the family that had been taken. The Grimmerie, of course, was completely out of the question, which had left him with Nanny's romance novels which hadn't so much been good reading as something to puzzle him for a while.

The prose had been so purple, it'd taken him time to figure out what the parts they were describing were. If he ever did.

After a moment, though, he finally spoke.

"Yes. I saw a few shops hiring," but this was the bookstore! "but your sign was the most appealing."

A little flattery (especially when it was honest) never hurt anyone.

He thought on his schedule for school. He would have liked Wednesday, but as it was taken, there was another day when he didn't have class.

"Would Friday be all right?"

"I can do that. I can also clean, if you like. Dust and sweep and such."

Though not with the broom whose handle was sticking out of the quiver on his back.

"You'd have to show me how you'd like me to wait on them, though. Just once," he said hopefully. He didn't want her to think him slow.

"And that's all?"

No questions about his parents? No questions about anything? No comments on his clothes? Nothing?

...he was a little worried at how easy this seemed to be, but it was par for the course here, it seemed.

Perhaps the hard part would be the job itself.

"That sounds just fine."

And he was curious about the compensation aspect, but he figured any money was better than no money, and if he worked hard and made an effort to do the best he could, that it very well might be noticed.

He licked his lips to keep from saying something outright before shaking his head. He wouldn't take money until he'd done work for it. But it was her shop.

"If you'd like me to look presentable while I'm here, I'll accept funds to be taken out of my pay for a uniform. Otherwise, I'll... I'll take care of it myself, thank you though."

He breathed out.

"As for questions, I'll probably have some on Friday once I know enough to know what to ask."

Seregil headed down into town after class and slowed to a stop in front of the book store when he saw the sign. Books he understood and it would be a good way of picking up more knowledge about this world.

He pulled open the door and went inside. "Hello?"

"I saw the sign in the window... are you still looking for someone?"

"I was thinking about it, yes," Seregil said. "Say, on Mondays?"

"I'm pretty certain I can manage that," Seregil said with a smile. "I'm Seregil i Korit Solun Meringill Bokthersa."

"Just Seregil is fine," he assured her.

"Thank you," he replied. "One question I had... would it be permissible to read some of the stock during our shifts when it's slow? Just to familiarize myself with what's available to be able to help customers of course."
