It was his first day of work. As such Makoto had woken even earlier than normal and, as a way of dealing with his nerves, he’d wound up dressing even more girlishly than he really had to.

As such, it was a very pretty girl indeed that showed up fifteen minutes early to the store to set out the pastries and start a pot of tea going. While the water was heating he busied himself with sweeping and making sure everything was neat.

Book Haven is Open.

Millie popped down at some point to check in. "How is it going?" she asked cheerfully. "Any questions or problems?"

"You might find me walking away with half the books in the store," Makoto said cheerfully, "but I'm not sure if that's a problem or not.

"I can always stock mor," Millie said with a smile.

"That's the danger of hiring people who like books to work in a bookstore," he said, "it's like we're practically begging you to take our paychecks straight away."

Millie laughed. "Imagine owning one!"

"I'd never sell a single book." Makoto said promptly, with a laugh, "Perhaps though I'd be able to handle a library - because then most of the books will eventually come back."

Millie laughed as well. "I just reassure myself with the knowledge that I can always order another copy or ten of whatever I sell!"

"That is a plus," he admitted, "but then you've got to wait for it to come back in."

"Which is why you always make sure you ahve multiple copies!"

"And hope the books you don't like sell quickly so you can stock more of your favourites."

Millie nodded. "Somehow it all works out."

"Somehow," he echoed, then he grinned at her, "and it's lucky for us that it does. Otherwise, what would we do without our books?"

"Oh Goddess!" Millie exclaimed. "I could not get by without them at all!"

"They're good friends," Makoto said, "I feel the same way."

"I actaully had no name of my own when I ran away from home," Millie admitted. "I named myself from one of my favorite books."

"No name at all?" He asked, puzzled, "But how would someone get your attention if they wanted to talk to you?"

"They just called me 'Goddess'," Millie explained. "Or sometimes, 'Goddess, dear'."

"Was that a nickname, then?" Makoto asked, "Though, if they gave you a nickname I don't quite see why you couldn't have an actual name as well."

"Oh no," Millie said cheerfully. "I was the Goddess. The Living Asheth."

He blinked. "You were a Goddess?"

"Mmmhmmm," Millie said with a smile. She let her shadowy second set of arms appear for a moment.

Makoto took a step back, purely from shock, and stared. "That's... that's a neat trick," he conceded after a moment, "No disrespect intended, of course." But, really, 'trick' was the best word he could think of.

"Oh Goddess, none taken," Millie said with a smile.

He smiled, relieved at that, "Can you do anything with the... uh, shadow arms?" Makoto asked, "Can they be substantial?"

Millie thought about that for a moment. "Somewhat," she said. "But it's easier to simply do magic."

"Magic. Right." Makoto still was a bit dubious on the whole magic thing, "What kind of magic?"

"Well, I'm an enchantress," Millie said brightly. "So, pretty much any kind really."

"Do I want to know how many types of magic users there are at Fandom?" Makoto asked, "The terminology alone is likely to give me more than a few mishaps."

Millie grinned. "I admit to not understanding much beyond my own."
