The Perk, Friday afternoon [1/11]

Mike Cannon was a man of science. He believed in rational explanations and he was also a meteorolgy enthusiast. That's why Mike was currently hunkered down with his laptop browsing NOAA, the National Weather Service, and the Weather Channel's web sites, trying to figure out how it could be snowing. His caramel latte would probably get cold before he gave up.

[Open for all your caffeine-related needs! Come break Mike's brain with more talk of Fandom weirdness!]

Millie wandered in, secure in feeling that Liir would be fine running the store. She placed her order and smiled at the handsome looking man with his laptop as she waited for her food.

"Hello," Millie said brightly. "I don't believe I've seen you around before."

"Oh, I should like that very much," Millie said cheerfully. "Computers, they are quite amazing, are they not? Before I came here I could never have even imagine such things existing."

"It is quite a wonderful place," Millie agreed. "I'm very glad that I ended up here."

She smiled at him, then blushed. "Oh Goddess, I keep doing this. I am most rude. My name is Millie and I own the bookstore in town."

"I do as well," she admitted. "Which is why when I had to decide what to do I chose something that would keep me surrounded by books."

She wasn't entirely certain about some of the things he said - engineering and poker and casinos - but she understood enough to know what he meant. "It sounds as if you have had quite an interesting life," she said with a smile.

"Oh Goddess!" Millie said, looking shocked. "Robbed. That must have been terrible!"

Millie nodded. "It would be terribly hard to leave one's family. At least I assume so. I have never had one."

"Just my cat, Proudfoot," Millie told him. "She's been with me since I first ran away."

"I was going to be killed when I was no longer a girl and able to be the Living Asheth," Millie said quietly. "So when I received the portent I took Proudfoot, who had just been born, and fled."

"As am I," she said with a grin.

[identity profile] livingasheth.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, they already found me," Millie said easily, "But Mother Proudfoot helped convince them that I was dead. Asheth demands a life, you know, but she's not always very bright."

[identity profile] livingasheth.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
A smile spread across her face. "You would stand up to the Arm of Asheth for me?" she asked. "That is most kind of you. And very brave."

Millie blushed a little and ducked her head, sipping at her tea to compose herself. "Well, luckily, there should be no need for such gallantry, but I will remember that you offered."

[identity profile] livingasheth.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Millie nodded. "Yes, I agree. It is important to stick together. And... I rather like your company."

She smiled and blushed a bit again. "I shall look forward to seeing you there."
