Fandom Post Office, Wednesday (01/30)

The cold was mostly gone, but Beauty was still feeling a little on the tired side, especially after spending the whole day out with Greatheart the day before. So although she had a book open on the counter in front of her, she was mostly leaning with her chin on her hand, staring at a spot on the floor where the light came in the window.

"I tried to dare him into wearing a blond wig last Wednesday, but he wouldn't take me up on it," Beauty said, with a little grin. "And thank you, Annette. I don't want A.J. to think that I gossip about him."

Although she could quite easily be coaxed into spending a good bit of time doing so, if anyone ever took the time to try.

"You're too nice to think anyone would think ill of you, Beauty," Annette said kindly, her eyes warm. "But you can trust me. I could never imagine you gossiping."

The compliment made Beauty turn a little pink, but smile gratefully at Annette. "Well, it isn't as though I have a lot to gossip about. Unless you want to hear about Greatheart's exciting day foraging for clover, or my thrilling afternoon date with Sophocles."

She laughed. "No no.. I see your point. I wouldn't have anything to gossip about either, I suppose." Which might be a lie. But, Annette was trying to behave herself.

"I bet you've got a few things," Beauty insisted, mostly because she was sure Annette had a much more exciting life than she did.

"We ought to go out again sometime. It's too bad Dick and A.J. don't get along, we could all go out together or something."

Annette really didn't. Not lately anyway. She's pretty much been sticking to a good-girl's theory which was stay inside your room and basically do nothing. She couldn't get in trouble that way.

She grinned. "We could always plan it and then tell the two boys after we are all together?" Which would be omigod wicked.

Beauty wasn't beyond the idea of trying something wicked. Just a little bit wicked. Like putting one over on a pair of boys who ought to get along better.

"I guess we could. Maybe if we made it someplace public, they'd behave themselves just to avoid making a scene."

Annette's eyes lit up. She hadn't done anything wicked in a very long time. Too long that she can't even remember it. Okay. That was a lie. Anyhow, yes! This sounded perfect.

"Let's do it!"

"But I have to have my date with A.J. first, to make up for canceling on him," Beauty insisted. "Next week maybe?"

"You just let me know. I'm good whenever. I imagine too, there will be a Valentine's dance coming up in the next two weeks also. It is a lot of fun. I went with Marco last year. Do you know him? And there were chinchilla's in the punch bowl."

"A Valentine's dance?" Oh...that sounded almost disturbingly romantic, and exactly like the kind of thing that probably had important customs attached that Beauty didn't know about. "Are there traditions in this time? Is there anything I should know about, so I don't end up looking stupid or uncaring?"

"Oh, no, not unless you want to get A.J. anything. Like chocolate, a stuffed bear... somthing like that."

"Should I? Do girls do that? Is it too presumptuous?"

Beauty had already screwed up Christmas and New Year's, she wasn't about to let herself mess up this holiday as well.

Annette smiled. "Of course it's not too presumtuous. Presumptuous would be if you bought him some silky boxers with red hearts or kissy lips all over them. But then if you're bold enough..." she waggled her brows.

"Annette!" Beauty exclaimed, blushing. Not that she hadn't lately had some intriguing thoughts about A.J., but she was definitely not about to go buying him undergarments.

"I think he likes chocolate," she mused. "Why stuffed bears?"

Annette just giggled.

"Stuffed bears, stuffed anything. It just goes hand in hand with Valentine gifts. Red roses too, but those are for him to get you."

Beauty smiled softly at the idea of A.J. giving her roses. He'd know they were her favorite, and he already had done that twice, with her Homecoming flowers and the painting on her wall.

"All right, I'll go shopping and find a stuff bear or something for him," she decided.

"And the boxers if you're in a particularly wicked mood," she added with a wink.

"I am not buying him boxers," Beauty insisted. "He'd probably die of embarrassment, and if he didn't then I would."

"Tsk tsk," she grinned and grabbed her coffee. "Valentines Day is for the romantically sweet and the wickedly naughty. Nothing wrong in combining the two!" Laughing, she turned to go. "Call me about getting together sometime!"

"I'll stick with the romantic part of it, and leave the wicked part to you," Beauty retorted teasingly. "I will Annette, and thank you for the coffee!"
