Book Haven: Thursday 10-5PM [1-31-08]

Millie opened the store, setting out tea and pastries for any customers. Then she settled into one of the comfy chairs to read until she was needed.

It was a cheerful Sean that walked into the store. Hey, he'd gotten rid of the previous week's Headache o' Doom. How could he not be cheerful?

Though he did try to tone it down when he saw Millie. Most people weren't big fans of the overly cheerful.

"You can't yet," Sean said with a bright smile of his own. "Figured I'd just come in, wander about a bit, see if anything jumped out at me."

Glitch realized he should have stopped by sooner when it occurred to him that the only book from this world that he'd read was the instruction book for the phone in his office.

Still, he was there now, and his synapses were firing off a little nervously. Really? An instruction book? You thought that counted? Too late to go back and read something else now.

"Hello?"

He beamed back, albeit a little nervously, and gave her the smallest bow and a little wave. "How are you, Millie?"

"Me too," he said, grinning. Glitch eyed a few of the titles on the books near him as synapses flashed to find the next stepping stone for the conversation. "Is your cat any better?"

Hey, it had worked well enough at the ball.

"Good," he said, smiling. He looked again at the books nearest him and hoped she wouldn't ask now about what he's read.

He lifted a hand and rubbed at the back of his neck. "Yes, I'm well. I've been working on my class for next week."

"Inventions, but I guess computers are inventions so that would fit."

Glitch beamed a little. "I was an inventor back in the O.Z. Even after the Queen promoted me to her personal adviser, I was able to keep my lab and all my notes."

While there was a part of that ego, Ambrose's ego, nestled back behind synapses beaming with pride at her recognition of such obvious brilliance, the majority of his synapses were left trying to cope, because now a lot of that obvious brilliance was obviously gone. "Well, I'm not really any good at it anymore to be honest. That's part of why I came here."

"Well," he was trying to be casual about it as a few synapses wondered absently if he could just write it all up and hand it out every time someone asked. "When the Witch, in my time, not Liir's, overthrew the Queen she took out half my brain to get plans for an invention so she could use it to trap the two suns behind the moon during the double eclipse and the one half was in a jar while I had the other half up here," he tilted his head for emphasis, "and I didn't get the other half back until just recently and things don't connect like they used to."

Glitch blinked, and took a breath. He really hadn't intended it to come out in one great rush like that and he gave her an apologetic smile. "That's, uhm, the shorter version."
