Bluth's Original Frozen Banana Stand, Fri. 2/01

Sky was not going to wear the banana suit to work today. Period, end of story. For once, he didn't care if his boss yelled at him. He felt a lot better than he had the past few days after scoring himself a date and talking to Teddy and Z. He had even slept some last night, but he was still not in the mood to be humiliated today.

As he opened the stand, he was very displeased to see that Eddie had found himself a girlfriend, and both of them were very squawky. So he threw up a force field over the stand's opening and glared at them.

"I dare either of you to try and beg free bananas now, birds," he challenged them, before settling back to read a book and wait for customers.

Bluth's is open.

Sometime in the afternoon, Bridge wanders by, slurping away at a Grape Judas Squishy, and carrying another one in his other hand.

"Dude," he says in greeting to Sky.

Sky glanced up as Bridge approached, marking his page and setting his book down, fixing a smile on.

"Hey, buddy."

"Um," Bridge blinks, shaking his head and giving Sky puzzled look. "I, um. Brought you a Squishy!" He's noticed the fact that Sky's smile is more pasted-on than genuine.

"Oh... thanks, Bridge." Sweet, sweet consolation in the form of Grape Judas. His smile turned slightly less pasted-on. "Why do you look confused?" he added.

"Oh, I just... I had a thought," Bridge shrugs. "And then there was another thought, and they kind of collided because sometimes I have too many thoughts and I can't think them all at once, you know? Well, I mean, sometimes I can. But sometimes I can only think about one thing at a time, and I think today is one of those times."

This time it was Sky's turn to give the puzzled look.

"Ah... whatever you say, then," he said, nodding as though he understood.

"Good," Bridge says decisively. "I'm glad that's settled."

Sky briefly entertained coming up with a smart remark, but apathy took over, and he fiddled with the straw in his Squishy instead. Now that Bridge was here, he knew he should tell him about Dru, but the thought of it still made him uneasy for some reason.

"Feeling OK after Wednesday's class?" he finally asked, fixing his eyes upon the Squishy cup.

"Yeah," Bridge says. "I, uh. Xander helped me see that not everyone thinks of us as freaks," he's unable to stop the slightly goofy grin from forming at the mention of Xander.

"That's good," said Sky, smiling genuinely at Bridge's expression. "...That's really good. I was upset by it, too, but... not so much now." Alright. Stop beating around the bush. He's going to have to know eventually. Sky repeated his usual process- deep breath, mentally telling himself that it wasn't for sure, but...

"Look, Bridge. ...Remember how I told you about Dru going missing last week?"

"Yeah?" Bridge's expression immediately turns serious. "Did they find out anything more?"

"...Cruger called me on Tuesday to tell me," said Sky. "...Dru's dead." Having finally said it aloud (yes, he'd avoided it for that long), Sky leaned forward, his face in his hands, inhaling sharply. He was on the verge of tears again, and wasn't sure he'd be able to stop them this time, even though there wasn't a body, even though it wasn't confirmed... "He's dead."

"Oh, dude," Bridge's face falls. "I..." for once, Bridge doesn't actually have anything to say.

Sky didn't bother to stop the waterworks when they finally started.

"There's no body," he mumbled. "They haven't found one yet. But Cruger said they're not optimistic, and I'm not holding my breath, either."

Forget not having *words*, now Bridge has no idea what he's supposed to *do* with a crying Sky. Normally in these situations he'd offer the other person a hug, but Sky's inside the banana stand and he's... not, which makes that option more problematic.

"Sorry," Sky quickly apologized, already starting to feel ashamed of himself and wiping his eyes on his sleeve. "...This probably wasn't the best time to tell you. I know I should've come to you sooner, too, it's just..." He sighed heavily. "Sorry," was all he could think to finish with.

"You don't need to be sorry," Bridge says softly, reaching out to give Sky's hand a friendly squeeze if he'd allow it. "You're upset, it's understandable."

Sky accepted the squeeze, glad for the comforting gesture, and hurriedly wiped his eyes again.

"Thanks. Still, I... feel a little stupid getting so upset about it," he confessed. "There's no body, so he could still turn up someday. I'm not gonna get my hopes up, though." He drummed his fingers on the countertop, then suddenly remembered his Squishy, picking it up and taking a slurp.

"Well," Bridge says. "If you ever need to, you know, talk about it? I'm pretty good at listening. And I don't care if you get upset. I mean, I care, but not in a way that means I'd think less of you, I care in a concerned-friend kind of way. You know what I mean?"

"I know, buddy." It was one of the few times he'd actually understood one of Bridge's rambles. "I appreciate it. Like I said, I know I should've talked to you about this sooner, but..." He pursed his lips, as he disliked admitting this. "I was just being a stubborn idiot. Partly wanting to deal with it on my own, and partly since you're the only person here who actually knew him, somehow that made it that much harder to tell you."

If you are wondering why Sky is in such a bad mood, he's mourning the death of his ~~husband~~ BFF. He feels better than he has but is still not 100% himself and may be snippy.
