Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Sunday

When Cable opened the front door of the store that morning, he found Weasel sitting by the side of a door in his trenchcoat.

Weasel jumped up. "Cable! Hey! Uh, I'm just-- checking in, you know. Making sure you're doing okay in all your... uh, aliveness." He grinned in what he hoped was a placating way.

Cable crossed his arms.

"So, uh, having seen you, would you mind if I hang around for a while? We can catch up on old times, I can, uh, scope out the neighbourhood-- have you maybe considered hiring someone from the outside for this place?"

Cable didn't uncross his arms.

Weasel hung his head. "You want the box, huh?"

Cable still didn't uncross his arms.

"Stupid question?"

"Yes."

Weasel sighed, his lower lip wibbling just a little, and got up. The box had been hidden under his coat and now rested there calmly, like a wooden nest egg. Without effort, Cable picked it up, walked back inside, and slammed the Open sign together with the door.

Although really, after a while, it wasn't so much forlornly as it was with the vague thought in mind that he should maybe get the hamster back out for another round of Texas Hold 'Em.

The hamster was a good loser. Weasel had to give him that. The only way this would be better is if the hamster had a dog.
