Groovy Tunes; Monday [ 02/04 ]

Chad decided to follow up his boring weekend of not doing much besides reading music (and fashion *cough*) magazines with a Monday of not doing much besides reading music (and fashion) magazines. With the occasional pause for a game of Kitties Try to Tackle the Chad. Chad almost always won that one, but that wasn't why it was his favourite game.

Today's Mix: Couldn't Be More Random If I Tried

He's appreciate it if you came in during one of those times when the kittens were flying at him from elevated spots around the shop, or why he was sometimes on the floor with kittens triumphantly stomping on his stomach. He isn't quite sure how he'll explain.

Watch out for kittens wanting to play Try to Tackle the Customer, too. Chad is a bad influence on them.

I wish I had a kitty right now. ;_;

Later in the evening, Teddy burst on into the shop. And went straight to Chad for a hug.

Thankfully, it was late enough that the kittens were tired of playing Tackle the Chad and had all found places for naps. Still, one would think an entire day of being randomly pounced on would have prepared Chad for something like this, but Teddy was a lot different than a kitten. After the moment of confusion subsided, he definitely returned the hug with a little extra squeeze. "Hey, you. Everything okay?"

"Bad day."

No, he wasn't letting go.

That definitely meant Teddy was getting a little more of a squeeze. "Want to talk about it?" he asked, with the sort of tone that suggested (if you paid attention) that he didn't have to if he didn't want to and hugging was perfectly fine if that was what he preferred.

"I--" He clung tighter. "Memories."

Well, that told Chad....not much. Something, but not much. He softly rested his chin on Teddy's head. "Everything okay, Teddy?" He was starting to get a little worried here, but rationality told him that if it was something really, really dire, Teddy wouldn't just be standing there hugging him.

"Better now." He buried his face against Chad's chest. "Better."

"Good," Chad said, shifting his arm so that his hand could rub Teddy's back lightly, and he gave a small smile even though he knew Teddy couldn't see it. "An' I didn't even have to do anything."

Teddy shook his head, pulling back just enough to look at him. "Just be there."

Chad shifted so that he could look back, and try that little smile again where Teddy could see it this time. "M'really good at that one."

Teddy smiled back, arms around Chad's neck for another hug.

"The best."

No way. See, arms around the neck didn't call for just another hug. Arms around the neck called for Chad leaning in for a light kiss.

Teddy kissed back, eyes closed for a moment.

He was okay. Totally okay. Dust from the records. That was it.

Except for the fact that Chad made sure those records were kept nice and clean, with the respect that vinyl deserved. He frowned, slightly. "You sure you're okay? Need me to close up early or anything? I don't think Melody would mind..."

"Just stay here with me?"

"I can do that, too," Chad said, giving Teddy's forehead a light nudge with his. He kind of wished Teddy would tell him what was wrong, but he was, at the same time, willing to do whatever he wanted.

"I love you--" His voice cracked a little. "Promise me you won't leave. Please?"

Okay, now Chad was definitely wondering what the hell was going on and what was inspiring this, because...He went to hug Teddy tightly again. "You know I won't, Teddy," he muttered. Wasn't this usually his issue? "I love you, and you're practically everything to me. You know that..."

"I just--" He was almost hyperventilating now as he tried to hold back any more tears. "-and Liir--" Another gasp. "--and my mom."

Liir? And his mom? How did...This wasn't even making any sense to Chad, and his worry piqued. "Ted," he said, drawing away with his hands on each of Teddy's arms, looking down at him with concern. "You sure you don't want me to close up? We can go back to my room, get some hot chocolate or something and talk..."

"He said he didn't mean to--" Another deep gasping breath. "--saw memories on accident--"

He cling to Chad tightly. "I don't want to see you die."

This was really not helping Chad's confusion go anywhere or lessen. "Wha-- Who said anything about me dying?"

Teddy just clung to him more.

Because he really couldn't explain this sudden fear for Chad's safety.

Confused, but even more now than ever desperate to make Teddy even feel a fraction of a little bit better, Chad hugged tighter and quietly just said, "I'm not going anywhere, Teddy; I promise."

Teddy nodded into his chest, just glad for his presence right now.

"Not letting you go."

"...Hope I don't get a customer, then," Chad commented lightly. "Prince Oscar Pedro's horrible at the cash register."

That got a broken chuckle. "Dork."

"Hey, it got you to smile a little, though, didn't it?"

And, in Chad's opinion, a smiling Teddy was fifty million times better than a Teddy talking very randomly about dying and going away and stuff.

"You did." Eew. Teddy hated crying. "I'm a dork, I'm sorry."

"You're not a dork."

Pause.

"Okay, you are, but not about this. Don't apologize. Just...know that you don't have to worry about this sort of thing, okay?"

Wiping his nose on his sleeve-- Also gross --Teddy smiled faintly at him.

"Just had a bad memory come up and I... I don't know."

Chad's attempt to smile back didn't work; thankfully, a failure on that front for Chad meant that his expression just didn't change at all. He was worried, though, as he looked down at Teddy and brush a little bit of hair out of his eyes. "You feeling okay now, though?"

Teddy went up on his toes, kissing him gently. "Stupid issues. I know."

Chad lightly kissed him back. "They're not stupid," he assured Teddy. Especially since Chad knew that he'd had thoughts like that, too. In fact, it was kind of nice to know that he wasn't the only one, and that lead Chad to hugging Teddy tightly again.

"I'll warn you next time I have a freak out," Teddy joked, running his hands over Chad's collar.

"Warning would be nice," Chad admitted, although smiling a little because there were hands over his collar here. "But this does keep me on my toes."

"Gotta keep that up, huh?" He asked, giving him another gentle kiss. On the cheek this time.

"Yup," Chad said, glad for the kiss on the cheek, but still feeling uneasy. "You're sure you're better now? Wanna just hang out here with me until we close, and then stay with me tonight? You know Katara won't mind, and she's got clinic tonight anyway so we can stop an' ask her even if you wanna."

"Can I--" Teddy bit his lip, looking toward the door. "Can I stay here with you? I don't want to leave you just yet."

Of course, he didn't want to leave after work either.

"Course you can," he said. "In fact, I'd like the company."

Teddy nodded, arms now around Chad's waist. "Good."
