Ronan made his way into Pizza Planet and quickly set up for his shift. ... Ignore the part where he completely wasn't here yesterday. He's here now! With paperwork. And also with ideas for specials.

When the owner pings in!

... Now I want pizza.

Tom was busy processing Ronan's paperwork, not minding at all that he'd missed yesterday. Because he had his own pizza place, darn it, and employees or not that wasn't changing.

"Sir?" Ronan asked, when there was a spare moment. "I did want to apologise for missing yesterday. I ended up being called briefly on errantry off-island."

"Hey, it's alright," said Tom, grinning. "It was a pretty slow day, anyway. No harm done."

"Great!" Ronan said. "Well, not great that business was slow, but great that if it had to be slow, it was a day where it mattered less." He sighed. "I wish I could say my day had been slow, but apparently all the other local wizards had been called elsewhere for the day, so I ended up dealing with all the immediate problems on the mainland.

Tom nodded understandingly. "Hey, sometimes these things happen. I have 5 kids, so I know to expect the unexpected." He then replayed the last part of the sentence in his head. "...Wait. Wizards?"

"Yeah," Ronan said. "... Uh, has anyone explained Fandom to you yet?"

Johnny wanted pizza but wasn't expecting to see Ronan manning the counter. "Hey, when did you start working here?"

"I... was just told to expect the unexpected here," said Tom, shrugging. "But I haven't seen anything unusual yet. Why?"

"Just today," Ronan said, grinning. "Well, I got hired last week, and I was supposed to start yesterday, but this is my first actual day on the job. How've you been?"

"... Fandom is a really special place. Have you ever heard of alternate universes?"

"Cool. You give up the clinic then or you working both?" He shrugged. "Been fair, I suppose. You?"

Tom blinked in response. "Not really."

"Okay," Ronan said. "This is probably going to sound really weird, but I swear it's true." He took a breath. "Not everyone on the island is from Earth. Some of them are aliens. And even those of us who are from Earth... aren't all from the same Earth. My version has wizards, for example, who are responsible for keeping things running. Some of the worlds don't have anything supernatural about them. Some do, but in ways totally different from mine." Supernatural wasn't the best word to describe his abilities, working as they did with the natural order, but it was perhaps the easiest word. "... Fandom is really weird."

"No, I'm still at the clinic, too," Ronan explained. "But I've been needing a bit more spending money, so. Here I am." He shrugged a bit. "I've... been better. The breakup was a bit rough."

Break-up? Johnny was behind in keeping up with his friends. "The same guy you were talking to me about last time I saw you?"

Ronan nodded. "Yeah," he said. "About a week and a half ago. I... It's been a bit rough." He shrugged. "But I'm doing okay."

"I'm sorry," Johnny told him, his tone sincere. "I was here, you know, if you needed me."

"Yeah?" Ronan asked, after a moment's hesitation. "I guess... I'm not really sure where we stand right now," he finished. "I mean, things were never... simple... between us, no matter how much we may have wanted them to be."

No, they weren't, were they? "There was always that agreement though, right? I could come to you, you could come to me. It was sort of unspoken but I knew it. I thought you did too."

Ronan nodded slowly. "Yeah," he said. "I did. I do. I just..." He shrugged again. "I didn't need help, exactly. And Isabel gave me what I needed there, I think." He smiled softly. "But we should do something, you and I. It's been far too long since we've hung out together."

Johnny chuckled. Isabel was great for things like that. "Then let's do something," he said, agreeing. It has been too long and Johnny thought he would do well hanging out with Ronan for awhile.

Tom nodded slowly. It wasn't that he didn't want to believe Ronan, but...

"I see," he said. "Well... I come from a world where we're not big on, ah, supernatural stuff, so... I guess I'll have to see it myself first. I believe you, of course," he added quickly. "I just haven't actually experienced any... weirdness yet, so it's hard to picture."

Mary spotted the guy doing paperwork and smiled. "You must be the new owner," she said to Tom.

Tom smiled back at Mary.

"Yep, that's me. I'm Tom Scavo, owner of what has to be the best pizza place in the city. The state, even."

"Mary Connell, owner and manager of the Arms Hotel. Welcome to Fandom!" replied Mary. "I like to go around and meet all the local business owners. How is business so far?"

Ronan frowned a moment, running through some options in his head before settling on one. "Here," he said, smiling. He ran through a familiar series of syllables in his head as he trailed his hand across the countertop. In his wake was left glitter, seeming to be part of the surface of the counter. "That's pretty simple, and it's a strictly cosmetic spell, but as you can see, it's real."

"It's great to meet you, Mary," said Tom, his smile widening. "Business has been great- of course, I almost expected it to be, what with the school nearby. I got enough employees to work the entire week on my first day here."

"Okay," Ronan said, his smile widening. "Got anything in mind?"

"Oh, that's terrific!" said Mary. "The pizza certainly smells great. I might be tempted to take one home for dinner. We have a chef over at the hotel, but he tends to whip up stuff that he thinks will get him on the Food Network and sometimes I just want something simple."

Tom's jaw dropped.

"That... OK, I'm going to sound like I'm 5 years old, so pardon me, but that is SO COOL."

"I completely agree," said Tom. "Of course, I have 5 kids, so pizza is one of the staples at my house, but I never get tired of it."

Ronan couldn't help but laugh. "Welcome to Fandom, Tom."

"5 kids?" asked Mary, amazed. "Wow. They definitely must keep you busy."

"Yeah, they keep my wife and I on our toes," Tom said fondly. "But I love each and every one of them."

"That's great," said Mary, thinking wistfully of her little sisters back home and Danny's soon-to-be-born baby. "Must be nice to have a family to go home to."
