When Robin wandered into Caritas on Thursday evening, Tino was nowhere to be found, but a note regarding his shunning of Robin was on the bar.

Evidently he'd discovered he'd have to work next Thursday for her.

[I am aroooooound but there is a new pet so replies might be a wee tad slow.]

"That is the best thing I've heard... oh, in at least a week, thank you," she said appreciatively.

"More than fair pay, then. Maybe I should have sought a job here instead of at the clothing shop," Romeo told her. "And I am Romeo. I suspect you can tell, but I go to the school here."

"Oh, right," he said, smiling as realization hit. "Valentine's Day. Should I apologize to him? I could apologize if you think it would make him feel better."

Romeo finished his second drink. "'Tis good to know. By the way, excellent broadcast last night, much more interesting than the truth. I scarce minded you suggested I needed an intervention."

He eyed the stage. The zombies looked much less intimidating with two drinks in him. "I will sing now, if you will sing later."

"No, he hates me. How're you, honey?" she asked, smiling at him.

"Not a good week, or am I just that good?" Robin wondered.

"Totally never would've guessed," she deadpanned.

"I was adding some dramatic padding," she explained, ordering her second drink. "I make no guarantees. This is only my second."

"The second thing," she assured her. "The week's been fine. Boring, but fine."

"He shouldn't hate you," Fraser said and glared in the general direction of where he thought Tino might be. "And I'm quite well, thank you. How are you?"

He grinned at that. "I know, I look like I came for the retirement home, or perhaps to run a dairy farm."

"Dramatic padding never hurts, especially as none could have taken it seriously," Romeo told her.

He spun his glass in his hand. "My second as well," he said, but motioned for a third. "Any requests? If I am to do this, I would not want to choose a song you dislike."

"You look like a wicked mah jongg player," she said, nodding. "I bet you rule shuffleboard."

"I always check around here," she said with a little wince. "Since apparently you can turn into other people or wake up with dingoes in your bed or have dinosaurs invade or something."

"You don't want to ask me that," she said immediately. "I'll pick something really embarrassing and you'll have to drink more."

"I'm dandy. Your Valentine's Day present came in the mail today," she said happily.

"Oooh, what is it?" He had to try.

"And I am as crochety as any man, and more so than many," Romeo nodded. "'Tis a perfect fit."

"Then thank you for warning me, instead of doing just that," Romeo said. He touched her arm lightly. "I shall do my best to make a good showing for you."

And then he headed toward the stage.

Romeo figured that if he picked a song where the singer had an annoying voice to start with, his own less-than-perfect tenor would matter less. He tried to look at Brooke and not the zombies as he sang.

Brooke applauded, and who cared- too much- about the voice? He actually did it. "Very nice," she said approvingly.

"A hippopotamus."

"Oh, you do know the way to my heart," he said and tapped the space over his heart. "I'll name her Florence and we'll be the best of friends."
