Chilly Boulder Ice Cream Shoppe; Saturday Evening.
While Chad knew that Teddy would be stuck in detention for most of the day, he had still handwavily called his boyfriend up and left a message about maybe meeting him for ice cream, his treat, later in the day. The reason had a lot to do with just that Chad was worried and just wanted to do something with Teddy, maybe something that would make him feel better if something really was still bothering, but the reason he'd given in the message was "just because." So he went to Chilly Boulder without even knowing it Teddy'd be able to make it or not. If he did, good. If not, well...Chad could still get some ice cream, right?

He opened the door, peering into the shop and grinning as Chad was quite possibly the easiest person to see ever.
"Hey!"

So he had doubts. Shut up; it'd been a really, really weird last week and change.

"What'd you think? I got in trouble?"

"So, you talked to Liir, huh?"

"We should get our ice cream first. Sit down."

When did Chad get to be the one good at this stuff? Pointing it out to the server, he ordered a cup of it. Sherbet wasn't good on a cone.

And then he decided to just go with a strawberry milkshake. "C'mon," he started moving, taking a sip. "Over here work?"

Teddy nodded again, eating a spoonful of his sherbet. "Sure," He said, following Chad to their seats.

"...So?" he asked, patiently, but still expectantly.

"I--" He took a deep breath. "He saw my mother die."

"She-- I-- She was killed before I came here."

Teddy'd acted like this sort of thing never happened. Parents died because of the stupid things their children did all the time. He should know. But he couldn't imagine Teddy doing anything as stupid as what Chad had done...
His finger picked idly at something on the wall. "I almost punched him," was all he could think to say. "Just wanted to knock him out for upsetting you like that..."

He kissed Chad's hand gently, looking down. "Thank you."

"For what?"

"No problem..."
Chad took a quiet sip of his milkshake.
"You know, if you do want to talk about it, though..."
He knew he was there for him, right?
Especially for something like this...

In that breaking way. It was easier to forget.

"Duh."
Pause.
"Besides, Katara would kill us if we didn't bring any back for her. And if she's not there...."
He shrugged. "More for us."
