When Ed got to Wellspring, he studied the weapons again for a few long moments before settling down on the floor with chalk and his notebooks. Maybe this time the transmutation circle he'd come up with would make sense sketched out.

It never did occur to him that maybe that shouldn't happen on his employer's floor.

It wasn't far into the morning before Cable made it back down the stairs, Tether on his heels. His course was set straight for his psimitar, leaning unassumingly in a corner, as if gathering dust-- "Morning," he said, took the weapon, then finally took a moment to glance over his shoulder. "What are you doing?"

"Trying out a new transmutation circle," Ed replied, utterly absorbed in his work.

"It's part of your alchemy," Cable surmised, the weapon falling to a natural position at his side. He didn't even attempt to move-- just observed, quietly.

Ed nodded. "Most alchemists have to draw transmutation circles to focus the energy of the alchemy through," he explained, blowing some of the chalk dust away to examine his lines.

Cable nodded almost unnoticably as he moved, slowly, around the circle. Keeping his eyes firmly on Ed's work. "But you don't."

"Form it with my body," he said, finally glancing up at Cable. "But the most advanced transmutations, it helps to draw it out first."

"That's a useful talent." He watched as Tether settled a few inches outside the circle, staring at Ed. "These circles work based on..."

He shrugged, trying not to bristle at the idea that his science was just a 'talent.' "The pattern of the circle focuses the energy I put into it in a specific manner."

"Interesting." Cable came to a stop, finally, a few steps away from the circle. He glanced down. "You're intending to use this one for what, exactly?"

"Trying to make a sort of parallel Gate to get back home through," Ed said quietly.

"You're stuck here."

Well. That was interesting.

"In this world, I guess," Ed said with a shrug. "Was in Germany before I came here."
