Book Haven - 10am-5pm - Friday

It could almost be said, whatever Liir might have complained, that he was flying without the broom. His feet were barely touching the ground, anyway, as he made his way to work. There were a few hops, a few chipper skips, and even one utterly ridiculous leap before he finally opened the door and started setting up the shop.

Cushions were fluffed and arranged for customers to sit, a small bundle of flowers were left for Millie at her door (he hadn't gotten around to it yesterday), tea and cookies were put out (along with a small plate of sandwiches done up with a sort of chicken salad and dried cranberries), and a few of the shelves were dusted before he settled down at the counter with his reading for the day.

...this should be interesting.

That looked more interesting than the kind of work Nanny had done with her hook...

Romeo wandered in a little before noon, carrying a bag from Jeff, God of Biscuits and looking relatively happy. "Good morning, Liir," he greeted. "Happy dance day."

"Happy Dance Day," he greeted in return, closing the book thoughtfully. He might ask Millie if he could borrow that one for a few days. It looked like a rather productive hobby.

"You're coming tonight, right?"

"Aye," Romeo confirmed. "I asked Yurika Dojima just after we talked." Why yes, that was a foolish grin making its way across his face.

Liir grinned.

"Wonderful to hear," he said. "Did you figure out what mask you'd wear?"

"It is silver, with a raised design that looks somewhat aged," Romeo said. "We're going mostly in black and silver -- Dojima's idea. What of yours?"

"Blue and gold," he said. "I wanted to compliment Andrew and green isn't much of a color anyway."

Romeo had never looked at Andrew's eyes enough to note their color, but green's connection to Liir was clear enough -- his eyes all but glowed with the color. "My wife had green eyes," he returned. "Not as bright as yours, but green all the same. I am sure Andrew likes the shade."

[OOC: The player would like to take this opportunity to thank her daddy for her own green eyes.]

"All the same," he said. "I'll probably pick a proper waistcoat or vest for other occasions in green. Tonight is for him."

"Then blue and gold make sense," Romeo decided.

He went over to one of the shelves and started looking over the titles. "Do you like working here?" he wondered.

He smiled brightly.

"I love working here. Millie is a wonderful boss and part of my job is to read books to help with her orders. I can bring food," and he pointed out the sandwiches "and we put out tea and cookies. I try to get in some cleaning as well, though I don't have to--"

He leaned back against the wall.

"There was a time when I wouldn't have been allowed in a bookseller's shop. And now I get to work here. It's rather a miracle in some ways."

Like this place in general.

"I like Pixie Dust as well," Romeo noted, with a slightly raised eyebrow at the comment about not being allowed in bookstores. "It is hardly a miracle, a Montague in a clothing shop, but I like Ms. Bell, and the customers."

Especially when they modeled for him.

"Have you read anything you should like to recommend?"

"I don't know if you saw me in the rags I came in," he said to the raised eyebrow, "but generally, where I'm from, shopkeepers hold little affection for riff-raff that might scare away customers with money..."

He stood, though, and pointed at a few of the sections at the question.

"In what area? I've taken a good stock of most of the books here in some manner or another."

After all, a good salesman knew his wares.

"Fiction or non?"

Romeo shook his head. "I do not think I met you until the dance classes in the park," he reminded Liir. "I am sorry, though, that your merchants treated you poorly."

He considered the question. "Fiction, I think? Something fantastic, to make me wonder."

"Just proper business sense," he pointed out. "They couldn't afford to feed the orphans on the street, the lot of us certainly wouldn't be buying anything..."

He waved the whole of it off.

"As for fiction, what do you find fantastic?" He smiled faintly. "After all, what's normal in one place might be fantastic in another."

Romeo was happy to let it be waved off, really. It seemed Liir's life had been as far from his own as was imaginable, and he was much better at receiving sympathy than at giving it. "Still i am sorry," he said uneasily, before turning his attention to the boy's question.

"Magic, I suppose," he said. "Dragons, quests. Or space travel, if you have such a thing." He smiled slightly. "I suppose none of this is fantastic here, is it?"

"Depends on who you speak to. I'm as magic as a stump, personally," he said as he started wandering over to the fantasy section. He took a look at some of the spines before turning sideways to glance at the science fiction.

"What about something like this?" he offered. "It all sounds rather fantastic to me. And they mention space."

Romeo turned the book over to read the back. "It sounds like a lost Space Battles movie, but I liked those," he said. "I'll take it."

He smiled, not having the first clue what Romeo might be talking about, before he started walking back to the register.

"Anything else you might be looking for?"

"I think this will suit me for now," Romeo decided, handing the book across the counter for Liir to put it in a bag. "And I fear I have other errands to run, but I am glad to have found this shop. And to see you, of course."

"As am I," he said as he rung him up. "It's nice to get a visit at work. And just as good to make a sale."

He pointed to the ~~handwavey~~ total.

"If you please?"

"Of course," Romeo said, handing the money over, frowning a little as he did. between the mask, the flowers, the dance ticket and the book, he had spent rather more of his wages than he had intended that week. It might, he feared, be time to learn to budget.

"And I will see you at the dance."

"I'm sure," he said before passing Romeo the book back.

"But will you know it's me?" he teased mildly with a bright smile.

"I suppose I shouldn't, at that," Romeo admitted. "I can say 'Hello, Liir' to everyone with blue and gold, and eventually I will find you through chance."

"Or just look for the top hat," he said. "I went for something a little closer to home."

He might not notice if the world ended.
