Our Lady of Fandom, Saturday all day

Gabriel sat on the church steps eating donuts and drinking coffee while Cat paced around him, watching birds. Gabriel wasn't at all waiting for Karal to stop by.

[The church is open]

Karal arrived in the early afternoon, carrying some sandwiches and fruit for lunch, and a bottle of water. Yes, he was intending to try and improve Gabriel's diet. "Good afternoon, Gabriel!" he called cheerfully.

"I did." Karal smiled happily at him. "I thought we could have lunch before we left.

"And hello to you, Cat." Karal reached down to pat her, then moved to sit on the stairs. "Here, come and eat before we leave."

He set out the
entirely moddable
sandwiches and fruit, and offered the bottle of water to Gabriel. "I thought something called a CD player? It plays flat, silvery discs that hold music." And there was still a trace of awe in his voice that such things existed.

Karal took one himself, unwrapped it, and nibbled at the corner. "Do you still wish to bring Cat with us?"

Oh, Sunlord. He really, really wished Altra would come back. "It should be interesting," he said, a bit hopelessly, glancing at Cat.

And, really, no matter what happened, seeing that, seeing Gabriel actually proud of the cat, connecting with something, could only make him smile. Vkandis, thank you. "She is a very good cat."

"Which must make it far more pleasant in the church." He nibbled a bit of his sandwich, then pulled a piece of turkey out of it and offered it to her.

Karal was enjoying it, enough that he tentatively ventured, "You seem happier than usual, Gabriel. It's nice to see."

"The lady at the bakery made them fresh when I asked her to," Karal explained agreeably. "It makes a difference." Inside, he was smiling. The week had held almost nothing but goodness, and he was content simply to enjoy it.

"I haven't. I'm not sure I realised there was a banana stand," he said, looking puzzled. "It is a fruit, isn't it?"

Karal blinked. "If you need something, I'm happy to get it for you. There's no need to threaten people," he said carefully. "Who's the owner?" No, he wasn't thinking of going to see him, to apologise for Gabriel and make up any difference. Really, he wasn't.

[woe! I sleep soon, but work tomorrow - yuck - so I'll be up early]

"Still," he said quietly, then shook his head and smiled. "I might take Evey for a chocolate banana. I'm sure she'll never have had one."

Karal looked up from his sandwich, smiling softly. "A friend of mine," he explained, the look of worry enough to keep from going on about her. "A very good friend."
