Bluth's Original Frozen Banana Stand, Fri. 2/29

Sky was already bored as he opened the stand for his shift. He was actually finding himself missing the usual noise and chaos of Fandom- especially because fewer people meant he likely wasn't going to get many customers today. Still, he got there and diligently set everything up, including donning The Suit. Less people meant less of a chance of mockage, at least, and hey, Xander and Willow weren't inclined to make fun of him on the radio, either. He hoped one of his friends would come by to visit, at least...

Eddie and Edwina, meanwhile, seemed just as bored as he was and were perched on the counter, chattering at Sky.

"You aren't getting free bananas just because there are less customers, birds," he told them.

Screeeee, said Eddie. Sky could only guess what he meant, but was sure it wasn't very pleasant.

Bluth's is open.

[Bouts of SP are possible, as I actually have things to do today, oh noes.]

Who is ready and rarin' to serve you fresh-dipped banana-y goodness.

Ino swung by only a few minutes after it opened because, well, she'd said she might, right? Sky would probably hear a fair bit of giggling as she approached. "You weren't kidding!"

"Good morning, Ino," said Sky, with a cheeriness that wasn't entirely fake. "Yes, this is The Suit."

Eddie and Edwina peered curiously at the newcomer. The two seagulls were wondering if she would feed them, since GIANT FOOD would not.

Screeeeeeeeeee, Eddie told her.

"I feel so, so bad for you," Ino said, glee in her eyes. "Seriously."

She eyed the birds dubiously. "What's up with them?"

"Thanks," said Sky, resisting the urge to roll his eyes. He then indicated the birds. "These two usually hang around the stand all day and beg for bananas. Mr. Manager named one of them Eddie, and Z named the other Edwina. Apparently some people think they're cute."

Squeeeeee? Edwina asked, waddling up to Ino and staring at her with beady black seagull eyes.

"Robins are cute. Sparrows are cute. Those aren't."

Yeah no.

"I'm glad you think so," said Sky. "Even worse, though, they think I'm food thanks to the dumb banana suit." He grabbed the broom and jabbed it threateningly at the two. "Get away, birds. Leave us alone."

Ino was... trying not to laugh at him but really, the idea of the birds trying to eat him was sorta making that hard.

"Maybe if you painted the banana suit? Like, say, green or something?"

Sky snickered.

"I would if I thought Mr. Manager would let me. Or just not wear the suit at all, but knowing my luck, the one day I wouldn't wear it would be the day he stops by to check on me."

"On the other hand," she said giggling, "you could paint it green and then, if he asks about it, just say you're an unripe banana. Or you could paint it brownish black and be an old banana."

Sky laughed aloud this time.

"A rotten banana would represent how I feel every time I wear this, at least."

"Even right now?" she teased.

"Well, not so much," he admitted. "I've kind of gotten used to stares and giggles, anyway. I just hope my boyfriend doesn't show up..."

"But maybe he'd bring sympathy chocolate," Ino suggested. "Or, you know, something else you like a lot if you're one of those strange, strange people that don't like chocolate."

"Well, my first day here, he was the one who laughed hardest," said Sky. "Then again, it was before we got together. Oh, if he brings chocolate, maybe I can coat the suit with it and look even more like the merchandise I sell." He groaned just a teeny tiny bit at that thought.

She just laughed more. "Maybe it'd get you a raise?"

"I'll suggest it to Mr. Manager," Sky said with a snort. "He's big on using stuff like that to draw customers in."

Squawk, said Eddie, which may have been agreement.

"You have to admit it works," she said. "So really, it's pretty smart of him. I've never been here before, for instance."

"Very true," Sky agreed. "I am glad you stopped by. And hey, I like to keep my boss happy. Which is why I wear it in the first place."

"Is he an excitable boss?" Ino asked. "Like, easily unhappy or anything? 'Cause, yeah, totally agree on the happy-boss being a good thing in that case."

"Nah, it doesn't seem like it," said Sky. "He's really nice, but still, I do what my boss tells me to. I suppose it's the police cadet part of me."

Ino shook her head lightly. "I still don't really get that, with a lot of people here. Don't you have an off-duty button or something? I mean, back home, getting a bunch of Konoha shinobi to listen to orders when they're off-duty is like, like, oil and water."

Sky shrugged a little uncomfortably.

"I take my duty very seriously," he said. "I do have off-duty time, but I try not to waste any moment I'm awake. Of course, Fandom does make it hard to stick to those principles."

"Doesn't that, you know, make burning out more likely?"

"I haven't yet," said Sky. "But Fandom has made relaxing a little easier, at least. I mean, it's difficult to take myself seriously when I have a job selling bananas."

"If you'd made that a serious business thing then I'd be afraid of you and your work ethic," Ino said with a straight face though her eyes danced with laughter.

"I think I'd be scared of myself," said Sky. "Not only that, and I'm sure I'd be considered a hopeless case by everybody. So as long as I never DO get to that point, I think I'll be alright."

She nodded. "That seems like a good as standard as anything, I suppose. If kinda entertaining to think about in the abstract."

And bat Eddie away if he bothers you.

Not that the song has anything to do with Sky, but it's what I'm listening to right now.
