Michael had a shouldercat for his shift today. A black one called Annie. The things he would do for his sister...

He was also still wearing the sunglasses. Funny how he hadn't been seen once without them in public since he got back.

Ino hadn't really expected to show up, since Michael had told her he'd be home for the week, but she was walking by in the early afternoon and when she saw that the diner was open she slipped inside.

"You're back early?" With a smile.

"Yeah," he said with a careful shrug so as not to dislodge the cat or provoke claws. "Didn't feel like staying there anymore."

"Cat-sitting", he told her. "She's Isabel's, and Isabel's in Mexico."

She wrinkled her nose cheerfully. "Annette and Cable-san both got me for pet-sitting. Angel's got a thing about my hair elastics, which is a bit annoying. But Tether's been a total sweetheart."

Ino gave him a sideways look. "You pretending to be in Mexico too?" Totally referring to his glasses.

"...Cable went to Mexico?" he asked, a little bemused by the idea, then grinned at her. "Yes. I missed the sign-ups."

Ino spluttered with laughter. "I don't think he went to Mexico! But he did go somewhere, so... maybe? He didn't really say."

She grinned, taking it as face value because, well, why not? "I think you need a brighter t-shirt for that to really work. More... Mexico-ish."

"I don't have any brighter T-shirts", he said, half-serious. "If you need someone to spell you with the puppy, I'm up for it."

Chris was finally feeling a little better from the flu that had ruined the majority of his spring break, so he headed into town for a bite to eat.

He nodded at the guy behind the counter and looked thoughtfully at the cat on his shoulder.

"Cheeseburger and fries?" Chris asked, after not spotting anything on the specials board that appealed to him.

"I don't think we've met; I'm Chris."

"Cheeseburger and fries!" he called back to the kitchen. He was staying out of there on account of the cat. "Michael."

Inevitably, Gunther got fed up of Porthos chasing him around the lobby and ordered Hoshi to take the dog outside while he watched the front desk. So once Hoshi had Porthos on a leash, she went for a walk around town and ended up at the diner.

"Hi Michael. You didn't go to Mexico with everyone else?" she asked, keeping a firm hold on Porthos. She had no idea how he'd react to a cat.

Annie gave Porthos evil looks but stayed where she was. Michael shook his head.

"Missed the sign-ups when I was in Roswell."

"That's a shame," said Hoshi. "I might have been tempted to go if I hadn't gotten invited to San Francisco first. It probably worked out better that way since I managed to get a puppy while I was there."

"This one?" he asked, looking down at the dog. "What's his name?"

"His name is Porthos," said Hoshi. "His owner got deployed at the last minute and didn't have anyone else who could keep a dog, but I was happy to take care of him."
