Arms Hotel Lobby, Tuesday

Upon entering the hotel, Jeff came to a stop.

Mostly because he'd accidentally run a little bit too hard and had knocked the wind out of his body on Nana's sturdy chest. Nana, for her part, had come to a stop all on her own initiative.

She was gawking at Gunther and the sous-chef, dancing what appeared to be some variant of the macarena while singing something about macaroni that she, had she had that level of consciousness, would have been exceedingly relieved to notice Jeff wasn't picking up on.

Jeff shrugged, attempted to get That Ditty out of his head again, and settled behind the desk. He wondered where all that forboding came from.

Who is humming under his breath, but not singing.

Mary was passing through the lobby on her way to the kitchen, not having seen Gunther yet. "Hi Jeff!" said said. "Guess what? I'm picking a wedding cake today." As usual, the wedding talk made her absolutely ecstatic.

The voice had shocked Jeff into the Mary Position pretty much immediately-- he was staring down at his desk. "Hello," he mumbled.

Mary was about to ask why Jeff was staring at the desk, but when she opened her mouth, something else came out instead (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF1ofPBj37M&fmt=18).

"I don't give a...
Keep looking at my...
'Cause it don't mean a thang if you're looking at my...
I'm a do my thing while you're playing with your...
Ha, ha-ha, ha-ha, ha-ha"

Jeff's gaze crept slowly up the desk.

Then, as if realising what he was doing, he jerked slightly in shock, hammering his forehead quite thoroughly into the desk, and whimpered, "I have a girlfriend!"

Pause.

"You can tell by the way she walks that she's my girl
You can tell by the way she talks she rules the world.
You can see in her eyes that no one is her chain.
She's my girl, my stocksy girl..."

Mary groaned. "Fandom's gone all wacky again, hasn't it?" she asked, not really needing an answer.

The answer came anyway, and pretty much immediately. "Don't go in the kitchen."

"Is he that bad today?" asked Mary, looking worried. "Guess it's not the day to discuss wedding cakes with Gunther."

"No," Jeff croaked into the wood, "It really isn't. And don't mention the f-word."

"On to plan B, then. I still need a wedding dress," said Mary.

Jeff made that agreeing noise that men had mastered over the ages and that communicated their complete and utter supplication to whatever the female person had in mind, provided it didn't involve them having to have opinions on fabrics.

It was a very expressive noise.

He was also still faceplanting on the desk.

And deal with the gawking dog instead. Or the hotel staff.
