Michael had been glad to escape the invisible cleaners in his room, that morning, and so showed up at the diner early.

The specials were your basic diner food today.

Luke's was open.

Whose hair is inexplicably wet.

Ino was bubbly, over-excited, and clutching a clip board with a pen tucked behind one ear when she came in. "Hi!" She greeted him brightly. "Your hair is wet, did you know?"

"Yep. Something tipped a bowl of water over me in my bathroom." He eyed her. "What's got you so bouncy?"

"They're cleaning! It's fun! And at least makes sense after yesterday." Ino was oh so glad she didn't have to do her own laundry considering what a mess she'd wound up yesterday evening.

She beamed at him. "Plants! Principal Washburn said I can have a garden on the school grounds."

"They didn't need to clean me", he said a little grumpily, but then smiled at her. "Yeah? What kind of garden?"

"Flowers mostly," Ino said, hugging her clipboard, "maybe some herbs, but those aren't really in the plans at the moment. It's just for fun, and pretty." She nodded. "I was surveying the grounds earlier to see what I had to work with. Fun."

Michael grinned.

"Where's it gonna be?"

"There's a spot not that far from the stables that's looking good," Ino nodded, "and Karal said that the horses can't get there so I wouldn't have to worry 'bout the plants getting eaten by them. But all Principal Washburn said was 'don't take over the grounds' so really, I've got a lot of room to work with."

"The grounds are huge", he agreed. "How come the horses can't get there?"

She shrugged. "Karal said they can't, so I believe him. He's not the sort to jerk someone's chain. I don't know much about horses really. Maybe they just don't like the spot?"

"Could be", he said with a shrug. "I guess Karal'd know."

"He's got a horse," she said, trying to explain, "so yeah, I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about. How've you been?"

"That'd do it, yeah." He shrugged slightly. "Pretty well, now Isabel's back. You?"

"Pretty goo--wait, what? Now that Isabel's back? What?"

Ino blinked at him.

"...oh." He looked a little awkward. "It was all over inside a couple days. There was some trouble on the mainland, but she's okay."

Michael was getting the Unhappy Face look from Ino. "Does trouble follow you around or something? Honestly."

"It's not my fault!" he protested. "But... yeah, it really kind of does follow us."

She was still with the frowning. Lots of frowning. "You okay?"

"I'm fine", he assured her, not telling her how not-fine he'd been before Wyatt stepped in. "Not hurt at all."

It was probably for the best if he didn't mention that...

Even if Ino would totally kick his ass for keeping something like that from her. Seriously.

"If you're sure," she said, eyeing him.

He didn't want her to do anything undeserved to Isabel for what Meris had done.

"Positive. Everybody's okay."

"That's good," Ino said, "though now I feel kinda guilty for having a good week when yours wasn't."

Which was completely stupid and very true all at the same time.

Michael gave her a chiding look.

"That's dumb. Be glad you had a good week."

She flushed a bit. "I know it's silly. I can't help it though."

It was just the way she was.

"Well, I don't want you to feel guilty", he said firmly.

"You can't order someone's feelings around," Ino said, though she was starting to smile.

"I can try", he insisted.

"I don't have to listen to you."

"Don't see you leaving. Or blocking your ears."

She rolled her eyes. "Fine. I don't have to obey you."

Michael laughed at her.

"But I just saw a smile."

"I didn't smile!" Ino insisted despite the fact that she was, indeed, smiling. "You're seeing things!"

"You're smiling right now!" he countered, laughing.

She spun and put her back to him. "You can't tell that for sure!"

Oh, so very childish. It was fun.

"Bet you are anyway."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," she tossed her head, "you think you know me so well."

She was though. Hush.

With or without invisible cleaners.
