Pixie Dust, Monday, 3/10

Even though it was Monday morning, Romeo was cheerful as he opened the store. His shoes were behaving themselves, the store's cleaning products were firmly under the bathroom sink, and he felt no impulse whatsoever to burst into song. He even loved the new angel statues around town.

Plus, there were racks and racks of pretty clothes to look through. Was it tacky to use your employee discount to buy your not-a-girlfriend a birthday present?

Romeo pondered this as he began unpacking a new shipment of spring dresses.

Bother him, he's pretty!

Sometime early-afternoon, after finally dragging herself out of bed, there was a not-a-girlfriend sticking her head in the door of her Favorite Store Ever. "Ohaiyo! I'm looking to purchase a really cute shop boy, he's about so tall, has a smile like an angel and a dirty dirty mind? Do you have one of those?"

Said smile flashed as Romeo put down the magazine he'd been paging through behind the counter. "Just one," he said, approaching Yurika. "I am not sure he is for sale, but I have the ability to barter if you make a high enough offer."

"Well, for my opening offer, I may have brought a treat or two," she said, dangling a bag from JGoB at him. "Unless, of course, you aren't interested in what I have to offer."

"I suspect you could make many an interesting offer,'" Romeo said, eying the bag almost as hungrily as the girl. he hadn't had lunch yet, and it smelled incredible. "A treat might be a good start."

"Interesting offers are a specialty of mine," Dōjima admitted, smirking slightly. "But I'm not going to put everything out on the table just to start, I need to know what you're willing to barter, first."

"You'd be a poor bargainer if you started with your highest offer," Romeo said, reaching out to place a hand on her hip. "For the treats alone, I suppose you could rent your salesboy for as long as it takes us to eat them."

"What makes you think you're worth my highest bid?" she asked sweetly. "I can get pretty high. I think, however, I could settle for a rental, while we have our treats."

"What makes you think I'm not worth more than your highest, dear one?" he asked, a laugh in his voice as he slid the hand up her side and slowly withdrew it. "But if a rental is all you want, the treats and the pleasure of your company are more than payment enough. There are two chairs behind the counter."

The hand along her side was nice, and Dōjima moved closer to him, eyes sparkling. "You can't expect me to make a purchase, not without testing out the goods first. That would be bad business!"

"So I'm just to hand out a free sample to any who ask?" he returned, trying (and mostly failing) to sound outraged. "There'd be nothing left soon enough, and that would also be bad business."

"Free? When did I say free? I did bring the treats, after all," she reminded him, waltzing away to steal a chair. "Now, are you going to come sample my goods, or are you going to stand there and be outraged?"

"So I sample your treats, and you sample me?" Romeo said, and waited almost a full second before he loped over to the other chair and added, "That seems more than fair. Though you still owe me for that raincheck."

"Oh really? What do you think I owe you for the raincheck, then?" Yurika started pulling various baked goods out of the bag and grinned at him. "I'm the one who accepted the delay, doesn't that mean you owe me?

Romeo grabbed a chocolate-chip cookie and took a bite before answering. "I think the offer on the table involved you, me, and a variation on our experiment of last week. So perhaps it is mutually owed, though I'm certainly ready to pay when you wish to collect." The hand not holding the cookie found its way to hers as he spoke.

Dōjima just grinned impishly. "Well, you're on the clock, so I can't exactly collect now, now can I? Or does Bell-sensei condone closing early, to run off and do unspeakable things with a girl of ill-repute?"

"She's Ms. Bell," Romeo pointed out. "I think she would condone that greatly, and only be disappointed we were not drunk."

On the other hand, the dressing rooms were small, even if he hoped she wouldn't ask how he found that out. "But I suspect a few hours' patience will buy us a more comfortable space than a dressing room. Are you still free tonight?"

"She might also give us bonus points. Since we didn't have to waste alcohol to score our prizes, that leaves us more for the next adventure, right?" Yurika squeezed his hand lightly as she snacked on a scone. "Depending on the company, a dressing room can be adequate, but I'm willing to be patient. I've only got one engagement on my dance calendar tonight, so there's no rush."

"Only one - oh," Romeo said, grin blossoming as he realized what she meant. "I think that one engagement might take up much of your evening, so indeed there's no need to rush now."

He took another bite of cookie. "How have you been since Saturday?"

"Fine. It was my Fandom-sibling's birthday, so I went to her party last night. Nothing too wild or rowdy, unless you count the decadence of cheesecake," she said, shrugging. "How about you? Any other strange happenings? No backwards books or angry clothing?"

"I saw Valentine's message too late. I hope Namine had a good party -- she doesn't seem like she would like rowdiness anyhow," Romeo said with a touch of regret. "But there's been nothing strange save the church caretaker, and he can be bought off with a donut. Oh, and Reno's taking over that odd host club thing." It was clear he thought this was a Very Good Thing.

"Wait, what? Reno's in charge of Host Club?" Dōjima blinked in surprise. "The one time I went from sheer, desperate boredom, the two of us ended up dancing together so that we could mock everyone else there. They put Reno in charge? Kuso!" It was evident that she was both deeply amused, and deeply disturbed by these tidings. "So, has he hooked the other boys on tequila yet?"

"Not while I was there, but I didn't stay long," Romeo said. "He inherited the club from a leaving student. And Professor Stinson is in charge, so it's not like anyone will hold Reno back." He flashes a smile. "I might be bored enough to go more often, if he does with it what he says he will."

"I'm almost afraid to ask," she giggled. "Are girls going to be welcome anymore, or is it going to be a 'boys only' clubhouse? Because having a stripper pole in the middle of the room? Not conducive to female membership."

"I think everyone," Romeo answered. "I asked him about dancers, since most gentlemen's clubs I've heard of have them, and he said sacrifices had to be made."

"Sacrifices that will keep his small, yet extremely dangerous, girlfriend from biting him in a not-fun way," she said dryly. "I think I'll pass, at least for now. Let me know when they start bringing a decent brandy, and I might consider adding some much-needed beauty to the club."

"Not that you aren't all very pretty, but I'm sure the 'gentlemen' need some ladies to balance out the equation."
