The Causeway, Friday Evening

It was simple. It was elegant. It was absolutely BRILLIANTLY GENIUS in its simple elegance, and Sokka kicked himself for not having thought of it before.

(Okay, he kicked himself in the leg because he tripped over that rock, there, but METAPHORICALLY it was because he hadn't thought of the idea sooner.)

The causeway brought people from anywhere, and anyWHEN, and took them back home again. He'd PERSONALLY witnessed it whisk Evie back to 1915 London. So why couldn't the causeway take him to the abducted people so he could rescue them? It was so obvious it just HAD to work.

...Of course, an intelligent observer might note, if he'd actually EXPECTED it to work, he wouldn't have headed out there alone.

After his fourth or fifth trip to mainland Alexandria, he headed back to the Fandom end of the causeway and started kicking it and screaming. "YOU STUPID, STUPID, STUPID ROAD!!! I want to go to CAIRO!!! 1923!!! Is that REALLY so HARD?!?!?!?!"

He started picking up rocks and chunks of asphalt from the side of the road and chucking them down the causeway as hard as he could, yelling wordlessly the whole time.

[Mainly for me, because I'm in a weird sort of mood, but open like a stretch of open road for anyone who's a-wanderin' by.]

Gaspode snorted. "Humans. Give 'em higher cogitation and abstract thought, an' boom, animal instincts go right out the window. 'f they couldn't sense the WAVES of wossname emanatin' from those stachoos, they deserves what they got. An' those of use smart enough to stay AWAY from them fings is punished by not bein' able to forage prop'rly."

"An' you're doing SUCH a good job by runnin' up and down the street. Look, I've DONE my share of heroin', and it ain't brought me much. If it's all right with you, I'm gonna sit this one out."

Gaspode scratched himself again, thinking. "She must be somethin', this girl of yours that got wossnamed."
