They had taken many, but still the angels were hungry.

The angels needed to feed.

How nice of this island to provide them such bounty.

Doom had heard about these angel statues via the radio and was increasingly interested in them. After several days, the violent denizens of Fandom had yet to annihilate them. They were even, presumably, able to fend off attacks by the annoyingly telekinetic members of the town's populace.

They required study, and study of this sort rarely happened without some risk to one's self. As such, he was in the park, seeking out one of these angels.

One would think the angels would be more careful now that people were looking for them. And yet, a statue appeared, standing, eyes covered.

"Hmm," Doom said, studying the statue as he approached. The first step was to test its defenses, so he raised a hand and fired lasers from his fingers at the angel.

Were those powerful lasers? They didn't seem very powerful as the statue remained standing. Not a single chip off the smooth white stone.

It waited. Always ready for just one turn of the head. One blink was all it needed.

"That would be why the violent imbeciles of the island have failed to eliminate this problem," Doom noted, pacing around the statue to inspect it from all angles. "And yet it's not bothering to move. Attempting to spring a trap? By standing still? Quaint."

The angel was patient.

If it could've, it would've agreed about the imbeciles.

Doom reached down to his belt to procure a mallet and chisel so he could take a sample of the stone. This meant that he took his eyes off the angel for just a moment.

When he looked up, he would find the angel was suddenly reaching out, possibly directing him to something just over his shoulder.

It was a helpful creature. Nothing scary about it.

"Movement," Doom said. "And... is it pointing?"

Doom glanced over his shoulder quickly before turning back to face the angel.

Not anymore.

Oh, how silly of him to fall for the old 'look over there' trick. He should know better.

"Too close," Doom said. He pressed a button on his gauntlet and a faint glow surrounded his armor. "But ultimately futile. My force field is impenetrable and it is now active. You shall not lay a hand on DOOM."

Doom's overconfidence led him to turn around to walk off, victorious. He was sure the angel wouldn't be able to strike him through his force field. It didn't even deserve a second thought.

It really was a beautiful time of day in the park. Some might call the park silent and majestic. Signs of spring were everywhere.

There was no sign that Doom had even been there.

Just a serene statue of an angel with the slightest of smiles hidden by its hands.
