Fandom Post Office, Monday, 3/17

Behind the counter stood Annette; she was going through an assortment of spring floral stamps, just flipping through them thinking they were really quite pretty.

When she first came in, she set out a candy jar of pastel colored M&M's for any customers that came in, and a dish of cherry flavored suckers, just because she liked them.

Sucking on suckers and eating M&M's was how she was going to spend her day when she was not in class.

The post office is open.

Billy came in, expecting some mail. And there it was. The envelope. "The rejection letters don't come in big letters like that right?" he asked Annette.

"Hi, Billy!" Annette smiled bright before she glanced down at the envelope. "I don't know?"

"I think so." he said hopefully. "Not much need for fancy big envelopes if you're just gonna say, 'Thanks for your interest, but you're not good enough for us'."

"Open it and see," she suggested, trying to look hopeful for him.

Billy did so, and a slow smile spread over his face. "I'm going to college in Florida."

"And that smile means that that is exactly where you wanted to go?" she guessed, grinning.

"It's one of the places. It was high on my list. More cause I liked the pictures of the campus, and the idea of going to school in Florida than anything else."

"I'm happy for you, Billy, truly," she told him, her smile warm.

"Thanks. You have to come visit. It's on the beach, you'll love it."

"Of course I will, Billy. I would love to," she said.

"And now I'm already planning a beach party for my next birthday." he grinned.

"I just had a birthday..." she said, a little sad.

Billy's smile froze. "Oh, God Annette, I'm sorry I didn't know."

"Don't be sorry, it's okay... this last week was really hard on everyone. Besides, it was just another day, really." Even though she didn't get cake or well-wishes, or anything. She just stayed in her room, not daring to venture out anywhere.

"It was." he nodded. "Well, happy belated birthday." And he was scheming something.

"Thank you," she said, then asked impulsively, "I could use a hug though?"

"Anytime." he smiled, and hugged her. "You're a great hugger."

~~Billy would like to throw Annette a surprise party. That okay?~~

She bounced around the counter and hugged him tight. "Thank you!"
