Cafe Fina - Friday

Kurogane was putting together new chairs and tables.

Why? To stop Fai from whining at him about setting them up.

He was not whipped! Shut up!

Still, so there he was in the middle of the floor of the cafe, with a million pieces around him as he tried to understand the directions.

Who the hell ever heard of a table with a person's name anyways.

And the Help Wanted! sign was still up and promanent in the window.

"What's all this?" Fai asked curiously, picking his way through the scattered pieces of plywood and brushed steel furniture-to-be.

"That's what employees are for," Fai explained, as if pointing out the obvious. Looking over the unassembled Swedish furniture, Fai paused, thoughtful. "...For some reason I want meatballs now..."

"I could make some..." Fai tiptoed over to Kurogane and crouched down next to him. "...How is this our furniture? When I ordered it, it looked much more...together."

"Oh. Well, I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job, Kuro-rin." Fai smiled brightly. "Maybe you can get Mokona to help."

"Supervising," was the obvious answer.

Cassandra poked her head into the cafe yet again. It was... even more different than last time. There was someone she hadn't met sitting in the floor. That must be Kuro-whatever that Fai had mentioned.

She studied him back just as closely, seeming not to hear his words.

After a moment or two she nodded in satisfaction, as if he'd passed some sort of evaluation or something.

Cassandra seemed to consider this question before answering, "I have one." Then adding helpfully, "Here."

It was entirely possible that she didn't really understand this whole 'new ownership' thing. Or that not showing up for work for months might lead people to believe you weren't coming back.

With a nod she moved to stand beside him. Then she frowned at the furniture.

"What do you want me to do?"

Cassandra sank gracefully to the floor and picked up two random pieces. "How?" she asked Kuro-who's-his-face, holding up the pieces in question.

It would probably help if she were holding two pieces of a chair instead of a table leg and a chair back.

Even after exchanging furniture bits Cassandra frowned at the two pieces in her hands. She experimentally bumped them together with predictably useless results. "It's not working."

"...Yes?" Fai was sitting on one of the chairs the cafe had come with, just watching the two of them.

"It's not working," Cassandra explained helpfully holding up the chair leg and chair back that continued to refuse fitting together no matter what angle she tried.

Fai got up, picking his way over to them and retrieving one of the instruction papers. Luckily, they were entirely pictures. "You have to put the little thingies in to make the pieces stay together. Use the screwdriver," he explained, pointing to the necessary pictures.

Oh, hey! Instructions that didn't require reading! That was a good idea. Cassandra leaned in closer and beamed. She could figure these out.

She shoved the pieces together again with about the same effect.

Well, she could figure these out eventually.
