The Arms Hotel Lobby, Saturday [3/22]

There was no one at the front desk today. Instead, Mary was sitting on one of the couches in the lobby, going over that wedding insurance policy one more time before she signed it. Okay, make that two or three times. Gunther, meanwhile, was keeping her supplied with tea and cucumber sandwiches.

Welcome to the Arms Hotel!
Please join us for afternoon tea.

Although the meeting with the gallery's contractor had been nothing but good, Charlotte was still a bundle of nerves, so she was thinking that settling somewhere comfortable in the lobby to take advantage of the afternoon tea offerings and read a little was an excellent idea.

Charlotte lowered her book (http://www.amazon.com/Museums-Galleries-Designing-Worlds-Best/dp/1864700726/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1206209445&sr=8-2) and offered the other woman a smile. "Very well," she said, despite the nerves. "Nice of you to ask. I'm Charlotte, by the way." She offered out a hand. "Charlotte York."

There was a lift in her smile, in victory, that she hadn't said McDougall.

"Oh! Nice to meet you, and, yes," Charlotte gushed out the word passionately, her eyes widened a bit with a pleased look on her face; she gave a small nod. "It's just beautiful, it really is. And that view! I might actually come to miss it once my more permanent residence is ready. You have a very lovely hotel here."

Charlotte's eyebrows lifted a bit at the broken heart comment, at first with a stricken sort of distress. That was why she was here, after all, but then the sudden lines of concern in her forehead faded slightly as she relaxed. This was a good sign, she told herself. A very good sign. Here was a very successful business woman in front of her, clearly, by the state of the hotel; it could be reflective of Charlotte's own future here. But she started to wonder if suddenly she'd made a big fat huge step into the Divorcee Exile.

"For a bit, at least," she said, with another smile, and she placed a marker in her book before setting it aside. "I bought a property over by the docks, just to touch it up a little bit, for just a small little art gallery. I thought it could be a nice touch. It's such a quaint little island."

Ohhh, and she had a fiancé, too! Charlotte melted a little over the word, hearing practically nothing else after that. "Oh, you're engaaaaged?" she gushed, in a rush of envy and happiness. "Congratulations! Did you meet him while you were here, your fiancé?"

"Oh, that is so sweet!" Charlotte melted a little more, her voice wistful and a hand over her heart a bit as if it was all just too much for it to handle. It almost was, to be honest, as she tried to fight against herself trying to entertain the idea that something like that could happen for her here. That internal struggle was what lead to the next string of gushing. "A summer wedding, how classic! Will it be here? That'd be so beautiful!"

And now the kicker: "Is it your first?"

Stan walked in, enjoying the weather as best he could.

"I'm fairly certain that I'm still on the books for the house," he said with a grin. "Though it is something I'm considering."

"Saturdays are particularly troublesome?" he asked, concerned.

"It certainly doesn't compare to the hopping shifts during the week," he said. "Unless there's another convention or something."

"Or a wedding," he said, matching her grin. "Plans afoot?"
