The Perk [afternoon]

It had been a long few days, and despite going a couple of nights without rest (guarding people in a cave will do that), Anakin had found it impossible to sleep yesterday.

So he had taken up residence at the Perk with the largest black coffee they had on the menu.

It was kind of like sleeping.

Luke had a cup of water and a father who seemed to be paying no attention at all to who was coming in the door.

Using the Force to hide himself temporarily, he snuck into the Perk and tossed the contents in the dixie cup at Anakin's hair.

Anakin wiped water from his eyes.

"Explain," he said, glaring at the spot in the Force where Luke was supposed to be.

Honestly, trying to hide from him like that.

"Happy Dyngus Day?" Luke said, pulling his hood down and grinning.

"Explain using words you're not making up," Anakin amended.

"It's traditional," Luke said, sitting down across from his father and stealing a sip of coffee.

"You can also hit people with pussy willows," he said, making a face and pushing the coffee back. "No cream and sugar?"

"Hitting people is definitely looking appealing," Anakin groused, running a hand through his wet hair. "And I like my coffee black."

"Living the stereotype, huh?" Luke teased, at this point pretty much immune to his father's moods.

He wandered over to the counter, ordered a hot chocolate--heavy on the whipped cream--and came back. "Aren't you normally up in Connecticut on Mondays?"

"Something occupied my time here this weekend," Anakin said evasively, taking a sip from his mug. "I'll go up to New Haven tomorrow after my office hours."

Luke nodded. "Something occupied your time, huh," he said. "Must've been important. You're normally out of here on Friday like your hair's on fire."

Anakin frowned. "Not like my hair's on fire," he repeated a little sullenly.

Luke gave him a small smile. "Fine. You leave here in a completely rational way. And don't get at all twitchy during the week if you haven't seen her in a few days."

"You're not that funny," Anakin said sourly.

Luke smiled sweetly at him. "It must run in the family. I was wondering if I could borrow the shuttle for a quick trip home soon. I was planning on making a visit to an old friend but I ended up in the clinic instead."

"That's a habit of yours I'd much rather you break," Anakin said, raising an eyebrow. "How'd you end up in the clinic this time?"

"We were on a mission to some planet called Mustafar," Luke said, "and found nothing there, so we stopped back to refuel on Hoth. While I was there, I ran into a wampa." He made a face. "Not pleasant."

"What could you possibly have wanted on Mustafar?" Anakin said, eyes going wide.

Luke hadn't been expecting that kind of response at all. "You know Mustafar?"

Anakin nodded. "How did you find the planet at all? I thought I'd wiped it pretty completely from star charts."

"You did that?" Luke blinked. "It took them months to crack the encryption. What was so important about the planet?"

"Absolutely nothing," Anakin said vehemently. "I just...grew tired of it existing."

Luke stared. "Tired of it existing?"

What is wrong with you?!

You think I just picked up the mask and cape with the Lord Vader title? Anakin shot back. Lava planet. Use your head.

"Ohhhh," Luke said. "So this was just you being," petty, "you, then."

"I was allowed," Anakin said, frowning again. "I used to be a fairly powerful man."

Talking to his father gave Luke a headache. "So can I borrow the car shuttle?"

Anakin nodded. "Seeing Leia again?"

"An old teacher," Luke said, smiling softly.

Anakin looked confused.

"Ben wasn't my only teacher," Luke said with a smile. "You don't think I just picked this stuff up on my own before you, right?"

Yes.

"Master Yoda taught me after Ben died," Luke said, raising an eyebrow.

"Master Yoda?"

Luke nodded. "Green, wrinkled, talks funny?"

"I'm familiar with him," Anakin said dryly. "I wasn't aware he was still alive."

Luke looked stricken. "Do you think he'd be upset with me for telling you?"

"The list of things Yoda's upset with me for would be much, much longer," Anakin said. "I wouldn't worry too much over it."

He paused. "Does he know I'm still alive?"

"As you now?" Luke thought about it. "I don't know. I haven't seen him since before Endor."

For a moment, Anakin almost asked for a picture of the look on Yoda's face when he found out.

He decided against it. "Have a good trip," he said instead.
