Cafe Fina - Tuesday Afternoon

Kurogane was a little angry that no one bothered to tell him that their employee for the day hadn't show up.

But you couldn't tell from the way he glared and cracked his knuckles at the flatware everytime they started to sing and or dance.

Still, when Kurogane opened up the cafe he put the "HELP WANTED" sign back out there, just in case.

Better late than never.

With the annoyingly adorable Mokona or the equally annoying dinnerware.

Oh he's just boucing he's so excited! Can't you tell?!

Fai was there too, though he stayed more out-of-the-way with a cup of strong tea and a book.

The book was entirely for show, however, since he couldn't read it - as evidenced by the book being upside down.

He made his way in and found the gentleman that he'd spoken to the other day.

"Sir?"

He didn't want to bother him if he was busy.

Fai looked up from his upsidedown book, smiling brightly at Liir. "Oh, hello. You're back!" He hadn't been sure if the boy with the crashed broomstick would come back or not.

He nodded, practically at sonic speed.

"You'd mentioned there might be a place for me in the kitchen?"

Kurogane looked over Fai to the boy standing next to him and gave Liir a calculating look.

"Who's the kid?" He asked Fai gruffly.

"It's...Liir, right?" Fai clarified, glancing up at Kurogane. "This is Kuro-chii. He's my partner," he explained for Liir's benefit. "We'd be happy for you to work here, if you want to~."

Another set of sonic nods.

"It is," and he turned to Kurogane "and I would like to, if you don't mind, sir."

"Can you cook?" He grumbled and crossed his arms.

He nodded again, but firmly this time.

"I'm the teaching assistant for the cooking class, in fact."

"He can cook better than you can." Fai chipped in.

Kurogane ignored Fai completely, so long as you didn't pay attention to the vein in his forehead.

"What do you specialize in?"

"I don't," he admitted, "though I have a preference for spicy foods and things which, I suppose, would be called, er, Indian? Thai? A couple of other things.

"I do meals, soups, stews, and I can bake as well. I churn butter, prepare stocks, make preserves, can, jelly, distill... just about anything you could name."

"I like him," Fai said decisively. "He's hired. Even you have to admit he's completely qualified, Kuro-tan."

Kurogane was impressed and very happy to hear that Liir made things spicy.

It really won him points, seriously.

He wasn't going to show that though, not in front of Fai. The ninja looked Liir up and down a few times before shrugging. "Can't be any worse than the Cheese Grater and manju."

"Would you like me to make you something to prove myself?" he asked politely.

"If you're really doubtful? Or--"

He reached into his bag and pulled out a few wrapped candies (http://www.cookingdebauchery.com/cooking_debauchery/2008/02/szechuan-pepper.html).

"I made these. You're welcome to try one. They're caramels, of a sort, made from scratch."

Fai eyed the caramels, picking one up and looking at it critically. "...It's not raw fish, right?"

Kurogane eyed the candy and turned his nose up at it. Not in a rude way though.

"I don't eat sweets," he said flatly.

"It's caramel," he said with a nod. He wasn't hurt by Kurogane's refusal.

"Made with kumquat and szechuan peppercorn."

"Hmm..." Fai poked at it some more, carefully unwrapping it before taking a bite.

He was very thoughtful about it as he chewed and swallowed, then looked at the remaining half of the treat. "It's....I don't know what I think about it, yet." He liked the sweet, but he wasn't too fond of the spicy.

It was more tingly and tangy than spicy.

"It was an experiment. My cooking professor liked it, but she likes spices as I do. I know they're not for everyone, but they're the only thing I have with me. I can cook something on demand right now, if you'd like."

He looked down. It was really obvious he wanted his job.

"You can prove it to me later kid," Kurogane waived him off, his eagerness was kind of creepy, but Kurogane found most things that way.

Besides, it didn't matter what Kurogane said anymore, at least as far as Fai was concerned. The kid was hired.

Kurogane looked straight at Liir, his expression not changing. "When can you work?"

"Wednesday would be best, but I've also got the weekend free. Monday I have two classes and Friday another job, but the other days would just require me to take off for an hour or so for class."

"Tomorrow is good," Fai said cheerfully. "Can you do it?"

There's another of those sonic nods.

"Yes. That's actually for the best. Wednesdays, I mean."

"Good! We'll see you tomorrow, then." Fai smiled and leaned on Kurogane. "Which means we get to sleep in."

"We?" Kurogane looked at Fai oddly with a raised eyebrow.

He nodded and grinned.

"Yes, you do."

He missed Andrew dearly then, if only because he couldn't tell him of the news.

"Thank you!"

He was nearly bouncing.

"Yes, we," Fai repeated, poking Kurogane in the chest. "And thank you, Liir-kun. We appreciate working with you!"

He nodded, gave a brief bow, and then proceeded to sprint out of the building with a fading shout of "See you tomorrow!"

Kurogane gave Liir a somewhat pleading glance for help before looking back at the blonde and trying to pry him off his arm.

As Kurogane prefers not to have the world end on his watch.

At least, I'm fairly sure this is from the same picture...

It is. You can tell by the goggles. XD
