The York Gallery [4/10]

It was her first day at work -- not counting the opening, which she didn't since she'd been a boy for it -- and so Eve was understandably a bit nervous as she showed up to open the gallery after class. She'd darted back to her room and dressed quickly in the black dress and one of the pairs of black pumps that she'd bought.

And now it was a very stylish Eve that opened the gallery. But not before taking a quick look through the exhibit since she'd been unable to fully appreciate it the night before.

That done, she settled behind the reception desk.

There's coffee, there's bottled water, and there's Eve at the desk reading a book during her downtime.

Joanna had had a very pleasant night, and being in a pleasant mood always made her want to do one thing: spend money.

She had heard rumors about a new gallery on the island, so she decided to check it out. Of course, she had avoided the opening, not knowing what quality of art they would have, and it wouldn't do if she had been seen supporting the wrong type of art with the wrong type of crowd.

Eve marked her place in her book and set it aside when she heard the door open. "Hello, Mrs. Stayton," she greeted cheerfully, recognizing the woman.

Joanna, of course, had no idea who this young lady was, but she knew her name, so she instantly didn't hate her.

"Tell me," she said, "is there anything in here worth my time and money?" she asked. No need to beat around the bush.

"I wouldn't want to say for certain, as that's a highly personal opinion to have, but I think we can safely say that it's pretty likely you'll find at least something you like," Eve said with a smile.

"What can you tell me about the artist?" she asked, walking over to the first piece she saw. "Is his work very affordable?"

"The artist uses over three hundred photographs to put each piece together," Eve explained. "He uses a PowerMac G5, Adobe Photoshop CS3, and a Wacom Intuos 2 digital tablet to work with the images."

She smiled. "And for most people, they probably wouldn't be able to afford his works without a bit of saving -- most of them run around $1800, though there are a few that're running at $5600."

Joanna nodded. She had no idea what all that technical jumbo meant.

"Well, I guess I should have expected it to be cheap," she said, taking another step back to regard the piece. Joanna had paid for meals that cost more than the average price of most of these works.

"Do you think it will be collectible?"

"I think so, yes," Eve replied. "He's still a relatively new artist, so who knows how his career could end up?" She grinned. "And there's always the chance of him becoming completely infamous for something. His works would certainly be in demand then."

"True," Joanna said thoughtfully. "And certain incidents can always be... arranged."

She glanced at a few of the other pieces. "Do you work on commission?" she asked.

Not at all because she was a little bit paranoid, really, Charlotte ~~who's on a bit of SP~~ came down to the gallery to see how Eve was doing. "Hey, Eve," she greeted the girl. "Everything going okay?"

"Hey, boss." Eve grinned. "Everything's going just fine. Bit slow, but hey. First day. We're doing pretty good. Joanna Stayton was in earlier, by the way."

"Oh?" Charlotte's head tilted, her forehead wrinkling with a frown. "Is that a name I should be recognizing?"
