Cafe Fina - Friday 4/11

Mokona seemed intent to spend the day dancing with the silver- and flatware. Fai really had no problem with this, amusing himself by watching them all dance together. As long as everyone was served in a timely manner - and really, the staff lived to serve, so there were no problems anticipated in that regard.

Fai directed Mokona to write up the specials board, then sat back at his usual table with a notepad and a cup of tea.

Eventually, Fai would learn not to let Mokona do the specials anymore. Or at least tell the white creature what to write.

He's a little more complicated then most of the staff, but really, he hides that well!

Biff had been just wandering past, but the sign had caught his attention.

"...baby chickens?"

"Hmm?" Fai looked up. "I'm sorry, I didn't quite hear you properly."

Biff jerked his thumb towards the specials board. "Baby chickens," he repeated. "Um."

"..." Fai tilted his head to the side. "...What about baby chickens?" he asked cluelessly.

"Are you talking eggs, or the chicks?" Biff asked.

He paused. "Or are you a customer and I'm being insane?"

"Oh, no...I own this. With my partner." Fai waved a hand to indicate the cafe. "And I'm not sure what you mean about baby chickens. I thought it was called egg salad, but you'd have to ask Mokona." Fai chuckled, rubbing the back of his very blond head. "I can't write the language here, so I asked Mokona to do it..."

"Then Mokona is having a bit of fun with us," Biff said, grinning.

"Maybe?" Fai genuinely wasn't too sure about that. "Mokona is very...well, Mokona. I don't really know how to describe it. But I'm fairly sure it was being completely serious when it wrote the sign."

"In that case," Biff said, sitting down, "I'll have a baby chicken sandwich."

He really hoped it wouldn't come with feathers.

As if on cue (and it very possibly was), the the creature in question bounced over to them. Somehow, despite having very stubby little arms, it managed to carry a sandwich-laden plate.

"Mokona has your order ready!" it announced gleefully, putting the plate in front of Biff and then pirouetting in place to face Fai. "Faaai! Did Mokona do it right??"

"Very good, Mokona," Fai replied, trying not to laugh. "Would you like a drink as well, Mister...?"

"Biff," Biff replied. "I teach over at the school."

"Biff the teacher." Fai said, smiling. "Nice to meet you. I'm Fai D. Flourite; but please, just call me Fai."

"What got you into the restaurant business?" Biff asked, biting into his sandwich.

"Well, in the country of Oto I ran a cafe with Sakura-chan while Kuro-tan and Syaoran-kun hunted monsters," Fai replied cheerfully. "I liked it, even if it turned out that that world was actually a virtual world within another. So after that, when we ended up here, it seemed only natural to run another cafe."

Biff stared. "Uh-huh," he said weakly.

Fai's experiences prior to Fandom really made the Fandom wacky seem...not so wacky. "It was much better than the world with the tiny little people living at the bottom of a lake," he added, noticing Biff's expression.

"Did they have very tiny scuba gear?" he asked.

"Not to my knowledge. Apparently it was a tiny little domed city on the bottom of the lake. Every day a giant, glowing golden fish would swim over the city...like the sun." Fai shrugged, smiling. "I didn't actually see it, but Syaoran-kun described it. We've been to some very interesting worlds..." he trailed off for a moment, appearing lost in thought.

"...I think probably the strangest was the one where every night we fought a war between two gods, until they were finally able to confess their feelings to each other and make nice."

Biff blinked. "They had feelings for each other?"

"Mmmm~hmmmm~..." Fai's smile said everything.

Biff was getting a whole new appreciation for the reason behind Josh's celibacy.

"What planet do you come from?" he asked.

"My world is very different than any other, and I'd really prefer not to go back." The way he clipped his words at the end suggested that that was all Biff was going to get from Fai on the subject.

"I'm a dimensional traveler now. With Mokona's help, of course." Fai glanced over to where the white pork bun-looking creature was dancing with a spoon.

"That's neat. I died two thousand years ago. My best friend has a strange sense of humor and brought me back."

Fai tilted his head to the side for a moment, studying Biff. Then he nodded. "So this place is a lot different from what you're used to?"

"Very," Biff said, nodding. "Indoor plumbing is a huuuuuge plus."

"I agree," Fai said emphatically. "What was this world like that long ago?" he asked seriously, putting his elbows on the table and cradling his chin in his hands.

"A lot less crowded," Biff said, "and our old people didn't stick around much after 40 years or so."

"Were they eaten by monsters?"

It...could happen...

"I knew a couple people who were eaten by tigers, and one guy whose demon ate all of his concubines, but for the most part you were old at 40 and died of being old a few years later."

Man, I'm hungry...

...But not for egg salad. Ew.

Mmmm, baby chicken sammiches.
