Caritas - Friday night [Open]

Tino had taken a personal day off of work. Jolee was okay with this. He wouldn't have to deal with the young man's issues with old people for one night.

Then Tino came in as a customer, intent on making Jolee's night miserable. Jolee sighed and used a mind trick to get Tino back behind the bar. It was okay, he'd give him both pay for the night and for the vacation day. That's what you got when you tried to mess with Jolee Bindo.

Today is information day!

True, Charlotte knew she'd be going out for drinks again tomorrow, but, really, since Eve and Teddy had both picked up the weekend shifts (she loved those kids!), it wasn't like she had anything better to do in this town on a Friday night. Except maybe some ice cream again, but that was probably a habit she didn't need to get herself into. So she ducked into the bar, found herself a nice seat, and ordered herself up a Cosmo.

"Good evening, Ms York," Jolee greeted as Tino brought over her Cosmo. "How are you tonight?"

"Very well, thank you!" Charlotte chirped with a beam. "The gallery opened to a small, but rather nice turn-out, and I don't stare quite as badly when people tell me things like they've turned into a boy or they're from the past!"

This was quite an accomplishment, Charlotte felt, one that definitely called for a celebratory drink. The whole second date with Nathan thing was occasion, as well, but that one had to refrain from being mentioned, lest she only jinx herself.

"Ah, so you've heard even more about the town's quirks," Jolee said. "Do you believe me about the aliens yet?"

"There haven't been any aliens yet," that Charlotte knew of, anyway, "so I'm not sure I can honestly say I'd believe you, but I would be willing to at least give you the benefit of a doubt, so that's at least a bit of an improvement, right?"

"Hmph. As far as I'm concerned, you should trust your elders implicitly. Well, not all of them. Mainly just me. No matter how much I lie because I'm bored," Jolee rambled. "But still, it is an improvement, I'll grant you that much."

Jolee paused for a moment as he recalled something Charlotte had just said. "Did you say that people told you they'd changed into boys?"

Charlotte chuckled a little, partly on account of her good mood and partly on account that it had been a while since she'd gotten a trust-your-elders line and anything that made her feel young, especially in a town where the majority of the population was under legal voting age, was a good thing in her book.

"Not only did they tell me," she said, with an important sort of nod, "but they did. Turn into them, I mean. One of my new employees and the nice girl who likes to help because she's just adorable and artistic. And Dale explained to me that the same thing happened last year around this time, too, although the opposite, that all the boys were turning into girls."

"I'm glad I missed that one," Jolee said. "People have enough trouble dealing with a cantankerous old man. No way they'd want to deal with a cantankerous old woman who's used to being a man."

"You'd have to get some cats," Charlotte suggested with a grin and took a sip of her drink before shaking her head, wrinkled her nose, and waved a dismissive hand. "And you're not that cantankerous, noooo."

"Hey now! Don't say that too loud," Jolee said. "I have a reputation to maintain as the town's grumpy old codger. If too many people think I'm nice, I'm just going to have to pick another argument with Anakin Skywalker and be stubborn at him for a while."

"A beer, please."

It'd been a while since he got out. Not that it'd be long. Cable settled quietly at the bar.

"Don't worry," Charlotte said with a little nod. "I won't tell anyone. Cross my heart." And she even went ahead and very resolutely slashed an X across her sternum with her finger. "The secret's safe. Although that reputation would explain why no one ever seems to be in her when I come in and you're behind the bar."

"Of course," Jolee said. "Haven't seen you around in a while. Probably because I like to keep to myself and I don't need any weapons. But still."

"It keeps things quiet. I can't ask for anything more," Jolee said.

"I like to keep to myself," Cable offered, in echo, and smirked lightly, "And I've been busy." Not selling weapons, for the most part. "How's the bar?"

"Well, I hope just a few Cosmos aren't going to be too much of a disturbance of the peace," Charlotte commented. "Although I don't see why they would be, you don't even make them, that other guy always does, I noticed."

Charlotte just about nearly spit out her most recent sip of her Cosmo.

Holy hell, someone else actually here on a night she came in. Unbelievable.

Okay, well, there was that other day, but that didn't go along with negating her whole bit with joking around about how no one ever did, so there you have it.

"That's because he knows what he's doing," Jolee said. "If all I have to do is pour it, I can serve it. Anything else and Tino earns his keep."

"Packed as always," Jolee said, looking around. "Just the way I like it when I'm actually working."

Was someone looking at him?

He didn't particularily look at her as much as glance aside a little.

"...Can I help you?"

"How'd you get into barwork if that's the extent of your repertoire?" Charlotte had to ask.
